Anyone got any idea why one month I ovulate and the next I don't?! Driving me mental......

How do you know you're not ovulating all the time?

Occasional anovulatory cycles are normal. Sometimes ovulation is delayed due to stress or illness.

If you suspect you are not ovulating regularly then see your GP for some tests to confirm either way.

My temp charts - really clear dip & rise one month - no dip the next. GP won't do anything until we've been trying for a year... (2 months left to wait!)

I charted for 14 months, got pg, had a miscarriage, carried on charting. The month I conceived dd, I had no dip, no rise, almost no ewcm. But I obviously ovulated. I still don't understand it.

It's a tough old ride ttc. Am about to start all over again and am not really looking forward to it. Well, some of it. You know what I mean. Grin

Oh wow - thanks Virgin that's made me feel lots better.... I thought temp charts were the ovulating bible!!! Wink

Well it's weird because I think they're pretty accurate and I knew what I was doing but I was very surprised to see that not only could I ovulate, but I could also conceive without an expected pattern. Honestly, that chart was like an impressionistic drawing of the Alps. All over the shop.

Remember, it's entirely normal for it to take 1-2yrs to conceive with there being no reason for concern. But if you genuinely suspect you aren't ovulating regularly then there are simple tests in the first instance and ways of fixing the problem too.

Good luck. It's a funny old time. I remember once upon a time believing the horror stories that brushing up against a fertile lad in the corridor at school would lead to an unplanned pregnancy. I never dreamt it wasn't that straightforward.

If it's month on month off could it be possible you're only ovulating on one side? (Forgive me if that's not how it works... I'm not much of a biologist.)

RunLyraRun · 09/09/2010 11:28

No, Dave, that's not how it works, ovaries don't take turns :)

Funny you should say that Curious as the woman at the acupuncture clinic said that you do ovulate from one side then another..... I have no idea. And to top it all off this month at 21 days I thought my period had started then it didn't. I'm flummoxed. Any ideas?? Confused

Could it be implantation? . If you're spotting between periods I think the usual advice is to see your GP to be honest. I'm so unhelpful!
