Ovulation symptoms but no smiley face!

Has anyone ever experienced this? Since coming off the pill in March and only taking the pill for 4-5 months, my cycles has been 28, 30, 28, 30 and expecting this month to be 28. I always get ovulation symptoms on day 13 with the pains, sore boobs and now minimal cervical mucus. Before taking the pill my cervical mucus was hugely abundant but not anything like it now but i dont think this is too much to worry about.

I bought a clearblue digital 7 pack ov tests and started them on day 11 and never got a smiley face despite my usual day 13 symptoms. Managed to have sex on day 11, 13 and 15 anyway but was wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

Have to add that during these days testing, especially days 11 to 14 i was testing in the morning first thing but having to get up
in the night for a wee. Another thing that always happens around suspected ovulation but i was still allowing the fours hours from the last wee. Have read on various websites that people say not to test first thing but the afternoon but i thought surely clearblue would know what they were talking about!

I am 35 and have been trying for 4 months. I have been pregnant 4 times before and never had to try as have always been lucky enough to fall just after one go.

I know i am older but cant help thinking whats going on. Should i just carry on and see if this month has worked or consider getting the 20 pack of tests but wasnt too impressed about spending £40 on them!

They claim to be 99% accurate but are they really?!

Results can be very fleeting on those things - for example I tested at about 6pm and got no postitive. Got a hunch and tested again later that evening - positive. Then positive again the next morning but by that evening it had gone again.

So in short, if I'd been only testing at 6pm like normal I would have missed it altogether.

I'd suggest getting a cheap pack from tesco or off the internet and trying 2 x tests a day to see if that helps pin it down!

Good luck :)

Thanks owlshoes. I was thinking too about getting cheaper ones off the internet and then being able to buy more of them and test longer. Wasn't sure how reliable they are though but if the clearblue didnt pick up and they are the most expensive, then what does that tell you!

Didnt really want to go down the Day 21 blood test route but being so nosey i probably would next month. This months will be this Sunday so not really sure how would get it done at the weekend of if you could do on day 22 on Monday.

Hi Jenjins I just wanted to second owl the cheaper tests allow you to test a lot more regularly - for example I know I ovulate on cycle day 15 or 16 so from CD 13 onwards I test morning, noon and then the evening. They say the best time to test is around the middle of the day as this is when you LH is likely to peak. So you could technically miss your peak if you are only testing each morning.

The internet cheapies do the trick - so I would give them a go. I refuse to buy those digi ones now - they are £20 a pop with only 7 sticks in them which wont allow you to test 2-3 times in the day.

Hope this helps - you might want to start temping too if you really want to know when you ovulate as this is the only way you can confirm it has taken place (other than blood tests)

Thanks Lanky Legs

Have already checked out the internet cheap ones! 30 sticks for £5.50! They look like more pharmaceutical type and you have to dip them in urine rather than wee on them. I had a feeling when i was weeing in the morning that i could miss and like you say, £20 quid for only 7 doesnt really help. All to make you buy more probably...

Hopefully i wont need them as this months action has done the trick but if not am stocked up for next month. DH not very keen on another so doing this all quietly otherwise it pretty much rubbing his nose in it!!

Hi,
Do you know if you can use the cheap ones off the Internet with a Clear Blue fertility monitor?
A couple of months ago, I was using Boots ovulation sticks every day (middle of the day) for 10 days and it never picked up my surge. I was a bit worried about it (for other reasons I won't bore you with) and went to the doctor and got my Day 21 test which confirmed that I had ovulated.
So, anyway, we're back to trying again and this time I've bought the Clearblue fertility monitor, but as I know it's reliant on the ovulation test sticks, I'm a bit worried that it's not going to pick anything up again, so I guess testing as much as possible is the way forward and of course this means spending lots of money on sticks..... any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi i dont know about the sticks for the monitor. The cheap ones i have bought on the internet are just the sticks themselves that you dip in your urine rather than weeing on them.

I have not used them before but am told they are very good. I got 30 sticks for £5.50!

Have a good look around on Amazon too and see what you can find...
