Booking an HSG

Hi ladies

I've been diagnosed with pcos and will soon be treated with clomid. The consultant says that I need to have an HSG prior to starting the drugs just to check there are no problems with my tubes (I had one of these prior to my first pregnancy so am not expecting any issues).

The only problem is that I have to phone the hospital on cd1 to book it and every time I've phoned they've already been booked up for the possible dates I could have it. They then ask how long my cycle is but because of my cycle irregularity I can't book it for the next time round and I have to phone again on the next cd1. Of course they are booked up for those dates as well.

Am getting a bit frustrated with the whole thing as I feel it's delaying my treatment. Does anyone have any advice about getting around this problem?

JHow frustrating!

book yourself in for multiple dates? Above all, make a lot fuss and dont be fobbed off. This could go on and on otherwise!

I have PCOS and also had a HSG.

You should not need to phone the hospital on CD1 to book it. The hospital I went to did not bother with cycle dates at all; I think I just went mid point during the month and when I was not having one of my very infrequent periods.

Good luck.

P.S Ensure you see consultant regularly when you are on clomid; you do not want to be given this drug treatment and just left to get on with it without monitoring. Clomid is quite powerful stuff and you do need to be monitored throughout whilst on it (it can increase LH levels markedly which can impede fertilisation). Max time you should be on it as well is six months; if it is not effective after 3 months I would be discussing further treatment options with the cons gynae.

Thanks for your replies.

Atilla, the leaflet they gave me says it needs to be done between days 6-15 so as I'm not stil l bleeding and there's no chance I could be pregnant so the embryo wouldn't be exposed to x-rays. I can't remember when I had it done last time.

Thanks for the advice on clomid. DD was conceived on this drug first cycle so I have high (probably unrealistic) hopes this time round!
