Any ideas of cost of fertility drugs??

My husband and I are just about to start IUI. I have a prescription for fertility medicine but there is no indication of cost, neither will the company I have been put in touch with quote over the phone.

I just wondered if anyone out there has any idea of the cost of Buserelin, Menopur and HCG? I believe that Menopur is the most costly of the drugs which is a shame! I need 44 x 75i.u ampoules.

And finally, the hospital have given me info from a company called Calea. I am certain that I don't have to use the company they suggest, but I am nervous about shopping around for this. Any suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi there

I can't help with the cost of the ones above as I wasn't on any of them (I had Gonal F and only used a small amount of Menopur). Definitely shop around. I got mine through Central Homecare and saved £600 as opposed to getting it through the Lister, but I think Healthcare at Home is cheaper for Menopur. If you go to Fertility Friends and look under the IVF section one of the first threads is where to buy cheap drugs and the contact details.

Its hard to give you an idea without knowing what quanitites you're on, but I paid £163 at Central Homecare for 12 75m vials of Menopur.
Also, try ASDA and Sainsburys.

Good luck!

Thank you for such a quick reply! Thats really helpful. I remember reading that ASDA were offering cheaper fertilty drugs so thanks for the reminder.

Have you asked your GP if s/he will write you an NHS prescription for the drugs? Ours did that for us.

My age means that we are private patients. :-(

However, I have spent all day looking around. Fertility Friends is a really useful site regarding drugs - thank you, La Bella Santa Catarina di Sienna!!

Just in case it helps anyone else.......

Central Homecare are really user friendly. They replied to my mail within 10 mins, and then a nurse called me to talk through the drugs and using something called an autoject which will help if you are nervous of needles. They quoted via email. Calea won't quote until they have seen the script which means another delay and I can't afford the time.
