Male v Female GP re: ttc?

IYO, is there a difference between how male and female GPs deal with patients who are ttc?

Up until a recent change, I have always had fab GPs, gender irrelevant. This new GP is really disheartening, coming out with the classic 'relax' and 'come back if this doesn't happen' type lines. To cut a long story short, he is being dismissive to the hilt.

I think I have just been unlucky in signing up with professional who is below average at his job. However, when I bemoaned this to a friend, she was adamant that lots of women who are ttc get more dismissive treatment from male GPs, and that female GPs are much more proactive.Hmm

I am loathe to believe this, but wondered if anyone else had an opinion on this?

Has your treatment varied depending on the gender of your doctor?

TanteAC do we have the same GP by any chance??

I cant really answer the question but i can put forward a vote that i think a female GP would be much more proactive and sympathetic.

My male GP, is def below average at his job. took me 18 months to convince him to refer me for tests, and even now after 27 months ttc #2,swabs,blood tests, clomid and hysterosalpinggram he still tells me just to relax!!

My male GP was great when I went to him. I'm not sure if the crying helped. He immediately sent me for blood tests to check I was ovulating. Got pg before I even had the blood tests. It was a case of relaxing for me, because I knew I was going to get some help.

Not had any experience of female GPs though.

In my experience going for a more experienced GP, regardless of gender, is the better option.

My first consultation was with an experienced GP who was understanding and was very clear on the pathways and timings.

For my 2nd pregnancy it also took a long time to conceive and I went back to get the process going again. She was a young GP and I basically had to tell her what tests I wanted.

Ours was great. He was a male GP who had a clear idea what was sensible. He asked how long we had been TTC. He had deadlines for the different testing stages and he directed us to the right consultants at the right time.

I saw a male GP but who fine - probably helped by the fact that bar one of two small tests we just wanted a letter for a private clinic referral so wasn't going to cost him much money.

Thanks, folks! Was just interested to see if others agreed with my friend.
