First appointment with fertility clinic -what happens?

Hello
My husband and i have got our first appointment at the fertility clinic at the end of this month after 2 years of trying for a baby (1 miscarriage in this time). We have been told to get day 2/3 bloods done for me and a sperm test for him prior to the appointment which has been organised. Can anyone tell me what to expect at this first appointment? Or what other tests we might then need to have?
Thank you in advance
x

not sure whether it will be the same for you, but we had our first appointment last week and this is what happened:

First we talked to a nurse, who took our history etc and put together our file.

Then we went to a room where there was an ultrasound machine, and we met the consultant. I had an internal scan and the consultant looked at the uterus and my ovaries, took a few measurements and printed out the scan results. we then went to the consultant's office and talked through what the results showed her, what the options were and agreed a way forward.

we then went and saw a nurse, who talked us through in more detail about when we needed to call them next etc. to start the treatment.

HTH

and good luck!

On my appointment the doctor asked me why I was there looked at my results, then gave me clomid, the whole experience lasted about three minutes. He was running over an hour late so maybe that was why. Looking back maybe I should have pushed for some further investigations.

Treatment does seem to vary depending on which area you live in.

Good luck :)

Thank you for your replies. Im so nervous!

Is it normal for them to plan a treatment straight away? I was sort of imagining that they would order further tests first? Part of me is desperate for them to give me something like clomid to feel like progress is being made but part of me is very scared of the idea of assisted conception.

Im so desperate.

i think the way they approach each case is different depending on your history etc.

If you've already had a naturally conceived pg that ended in mc, it shows that your tubes are ok, so they probably won't need to order tests to check that.

If you've already had your blood tests etc., then they should be able to assess treatment plans straight away.

But if you have indications of anything wrong from the blood or your uterus or ovaries look odd in the scan, they may need to do other tests.

They may order some other tests anyway - some consultants like ordering lots of tests. But they may feel they have enough information about your case to suggest a way forward immediately. I was hoping we could move straight to IVF as the success rates are higher, but for me and DH they recommended stimulated IUI first, so I'm currently waiting for my cycle to start so we can get on with it!

At my first appointment I was first called into a room on my own where I was weighed. Then DH and I were both called in to see the dr, who took a history. He asked about whether either of us had ever had a child before, about my menstrual cycle (or lack of cycle), about our past medical histories (any long-term medical problems, whether we had had any abdominal surgery), about our lifestyle (jobs, whether we drink or smoke). Then he told me I had PCOS and should start clomid and take provera first to induce a cycle so I would know when to start the clomid. He explained when to take the drugs and what the side effects might be. He wrote out forms for me to come back for day 2 and day 21 bloods and told me he would arrange for me to have a 'dye test' without really explaining what that was or what it involves. That was it. I was fairly happy with that at the time, but have since read here about all the investigations and monthly blood tests that other people are having and wonder why I am not.

My DH and I have just had fertility investigations. I had series of blood tests an internal scan to check ovaries and uterus. Had HSG to check my fallopian tubes which were clear. DH gave two sperm samples one was good the other average. We have a DD but have been TTC for the past two years. I have now been put on a course of clomid because we are considered to be fertile-the clomid gives me hope.
