infertility tests show uterine fibroids & one fallopian tube

I'm 35, dh 35, ttc for over 18mths. We were referred in Feb.

dh's tests all came back fine.

I had blood tests, HSG and an ultrasound and the results were a bit of a shocker: I've got uterine fibroids and one blocked fallopian tube :0(

Waiting (and impatient!) for the next appointment in October for a laparoscopy and dye, and possibly, at the same time, hysteroscopic surgery on the fibroid inside the womb.

Just wondered if anyone else was going through, or has been through anything similar...would be good to hear from you.

Thanks for reading x

If you're looking for positives, discovering the problem is the first step in solving it. It sounds hopeful if they are talking about removing the fibroid.

I was in a similar position, in that I discovered I had uterine polyps and a fibroid. A bit of a shock when I'd been told the spotting I had was likely to be hormonal. I wasn't ttc at the time, but I am now as although I had the polyps removed via hysteroscopy, the fibroid's position and size mean it can only be removed by hysterectomy. I don't really know what my chances of conceiving are, am in second month of trying.

Sister in law conceived naturally shortly after discovering she had a fibroid when she had investigations to discover why she hadn't conceived.

Hi Newyears, Karstan I am just going through checks. HSG tomorrow. But so far in my case they say it might be hubby's results which are the problem. BUT they told me I have a fibroid in uterus and that it was inconsequential? But we still have not had a final appointment where they recommend a course of action, so am not really sure, and am wondering after your story. To me it sounds like you could still conceive with the other fallopian tube. And, again, I do wonder why they told me fibroids were inconsequential, twice actually.

From what I understand there are various different types of fibroids and they obviously can be very different sizes. Some grow into the womb and some grow in the wall of the uterus. It may be that the size and position of your fibroid(s) is inconsequential.

I know my consultant could feel mine by just pressing on my stomach (I can't despite no end of prodding :-) ) but even with that and the ultrasound he did say we wouldn't know if it had consequences for getting and staying pregnant until I tried.

I was seeing the consultant for various side effects caused by the polyp/fibroids not failure to conceive or anything, so obviously treatment options were considered in relation to that. I think lots of women have fibroids and are never aware of them, investigations if you don't conceive might discover them but seeing as i think 30% of women have them it doesn't necessarily mean they're the reason.
