One stop fertility assessment

Me and DH have been TTC unsuccessfully for 6 months (5 of those using a CB fertility monitor)

Because I'm really impatient (and slighty neurotic) I have booked to have a private fertility assessment which involves an ultrasound and Doppler scan.

What I'm wondering is, I am ovulating (according to CBFM and therefore BDing at the right times) and I have regular periods every month - am I just being impatient or could something else still be wrong? (I realise I'm now also trying to second guess the test results!)

Also, how conclusive are these tests? What are the possible outcomes?

Please help calm my nerves! Thanks

Hi Panda I think it's totally understandable to be impatient although it can take a good few months even if there is nothing wrong.

I went private for a similar scan and was really pleased I did because it showed I had PCO which the NHS would not have picked up on for AGES.

One thing that's important to remember is that you can have polycystic ovaries but still be ovulating normally - so if that does show up, you'll need blood tests to determine whether you need any treatment or not. The woman who did my scan didn't tell me that and I wish she had done as it would have made me feel a lot less stressed! In that sense the scans are not totally conclusive.

Are you having a hycosy as well to check out your fallopian tubes?

I am sure you'll be absolutely fine but it's good to know for sure!

Oh, and it wasn't any worse than a smear test so don't worry about the scans themselves

The other option is that your husband/partner might not be producing healthy sperm. You're still quite early in TTC so there is every chance nothing is wrong and it's just taking a little while, but if your tests show everything is fine and still nothing happens then it might be worth thinking about getting him tested (semen analysis) in due course. You'll need to get the test repeated after a few months as well, as it can change over time and be affected by illness etc. The SA costs about £100-150.

Good luck!

Thanks both for responding.

My tests went really well. Dr said I was in perfect fertile health! Which has definately reassured me.

DH having a sperm analysis next week so we'll see how that goes.

Hopefully it will be fine and help me to relax more about TTC.
