Hi all, we took 3 years to have our first son, and that came about following a laproscopy which removed scar tissue and mild endo. After trying another year had it again, no scar tissue there this time but both tubes restricted, vague optimism that this was due to spasming in op but nothing certain. My consultant is recommending we try a couple of cycles of IUI, I'm wondering if there's any point. Has anyone done this, how invasive is it, how many drugs will I need to take, will it involve a general anaesthetic (my current loathing), and crucially does it have any chance of actually working??!!

All experience v welcome xx

"how invasive is it?"

All fertility treatment is invasive by it's nature. Depends how much you dislike having you legs spread akimbo with someone trying to insert a plastic flexi needle.

"how many drugs will I need to take?"

depends on the treatment schedule the clinic uses. Probably clomid at least. You can do completely unmedicated, but that generally has lower success rates.

"will it involve a general anaesthetic?"

nope. even for ivf they don't generally totally knock you out.

"and crucially does it have any chance of actually working??!!"

you can find success rates on the HFEA's webpage [[http://www.hfea.gov.uk/fertility-clinics-success-rates.html#1]
