Low Progesterone 4.1

Hi, was wondering if anyone had advice?

Had 2 mc's this year and cycles getting longer and longer, last cycle I ovulated on day 49.

Coincidentally has bloods taken that day, which showed that according to the LH I was ovulating, but the progesterone was 4.1.

My GP has told me to go away and carry on ttc for a while, was WAS NOT interested in what seems to me very low progesterone, but maybe I'm missing something....

I have heaps of spotting and cramps, and lost the last mc at 5.5 weeks and I'm sure it was due to low prog. Previous mmc at 12.

Can anyone help me shed light on this, I feel sad and confused.

Anatasia,

I am very sorry to read what has happened to you this year.

Is this the only GP in the practice?. If so I would change GPs; this person is being very unhelpful here to say the least. I would seek a second opinion from another GP asap and ask at that time for a referral to a gynae in view of your gynae history. Do not let them mess you about any more.

A progesterone level of 4.1 would indicate that ovulation has not occured. A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days or with less than 4 days of variation from month to month. Cycles of more than 35 days are more often than not anovulatory.

BTW LH and FSH should be tested around day 2 of the cycle (these should also be compared against each other as they can look okay if only looked at separately) and progesterone should be tested on day 21. These tests are standard tests.

Do not be fobbed off, seek a gynae referral asap.

Anastasia - if your bloods were taken on the day you ovulated, then your progesterone would still be low. Progesterone rises after ovulation. The "day 21" test for progesterone should be taken 7 days after ovulation to get a result to show if you have ovulated or not. Also an LH surge alone does not mean you have ovulated, the progesterone levels should have been taken a week later to see if you had ovulated or not.

I think that the doctor is being very unhelpful for you, is it possible for you to see someone else?

thanks for the advice, much appreciated! I have recently moved house so will be going to a new surgery so will try and get a new gp.

He also suggested to me to stop using the cbfm and keeping notes on what is happening but I will continue so that I am armed with evidence when I get to speak to someone else.

thank you for your advice!
