evening ladies
I'm a newbie here (feel a bit like being the new girl at school...) so thought I'd say hello!
I've been off the pill for 7 months and am now getting impatient! How come we try to avoid getting pregnant for soooo long assuming that we'd get pregnant at the drop of a hat and then when you finally decide you're ready you have to spend months waiting for anything to happen!
I don't even know when I ovulate as my pee and the sticks don't seem to be talking..
Time for the thermometer?

Hi Ruthie

Welcome! Come and join the buses for some support when trying to conceive, the (hopefully) due April 2011 one departs here.

I haven't used OV sticks before, but I've heard they can be a bit hit and miss and should only be used in conjunction with other methods. A great starting point is www.fertilityfriend.com for info and online charting.

Good luck!

Hey Ruthie - I'm with you, came off the pill in Jan and still waiting! Periods are all over the place and charting just seems really complicated. I've done the OPK sticks and I seem to have a surge at roughly the right time but still not PG...... I'm pretty healthy, don't know what the problem is!!

Hi Ruthie, Having trouble with the pee sticks myself although have only just started using them. Apparently twice a day might be a good idea as your surge cant be over within a 24 hr period. I only just found this out today myself! somebody in another thread very kindly point me here which explains it better than i could. here

thinking i might have to invest in a thermometer myself.

*can sorry.

LolaKnickers · 21/07/2010 17:29

ruthie - do you mean you aren't getting a positive result for LH surge with the ov tests? I know some people find them hit and miss, but if you aren't getting a positive then may be worth getting it checked to see if you are ovulating. If not, there could be a simple fix for it.

Ruthie - why not try charting/temping for a month and see if you can determine ovulation has occurred? Minimal investment of a digital thermometer. Might be worth doing that for a few months as I suspect your GP won't recommend any testing until you have been TTC for a year (unless you are over 35??)

I am a big fan of temping and charting and was thrilled to fall pg after 13 months of trying, DD2 took only four months and I have been temping now for seven years now using it as contraception (Billings method)

The pee sticks can be hit and miss. The month I finally got pg with DD1 I never got a +ve reading at all on the OPK, but clearly I did ovulate and I have a temp shift to confirm it.

Good luck and I hope it happens really quickly for you.
