Coil removal. Please make me feel better!

I'm in the process of having my copper IUD coil removed and was informed last night that, after an unsuccessful attempt, it is imbedded in the wall. Now I'm not only in physical discomfort, but also slightly freaking out.

Is there anyone out there who has been through something similar and can set my mind at rest?

Bump in the hope there are more people around at this time of day.

Thanks JSing! I'm putting it out of my minds until I have my next appointment.

yes, I was discussing this with a work colleague the other day (very strange office I work in) this happened to her with the first coil she had in, they did manage to remove it, but she said it was very uncomfortable at the time. Cant have been that bad though, cos she went back and had another one fitted a week or so later.

Try not to worry, Chocbiscuits. The strings attached to my coil were cut too short. An xray confirmed that my coil was in the correct place but the entrance to my cervix was too small to pull it out. After 4 doctors appointments, 1 appointment with a consultant and a day-patient visit to hospital (general anesthetic) it was removed. At no time did I feel uncomfortable in any way. The doctors/nurses that I saw during the many attempts to remove my coil were very reluctant to prod me around and cause me unneccesary discomfort. I think it very unlikely that your procedure will be done without general anesthetic. Hope this helps.

Thanks Faddle and Twinnie!

I have another appointment tomorrow, which will be attempt 3 the pull the damn thing out and if that doesn't work I'll be off for a sonogram or some such. Have been trying to put it out of my mind until then, and your posts have been a big help.

Now I just need to remember to dose up on ibuprofen before I leave tomorrow!

Success! Turns out I just needed a more experienced Dr to have a go because of the type of IUD I had in.

I can now go and shag my DH senseless in the hope of getting knocked up.

Phew.
