Disbelieving doctor re: short luteal phase

Hi,

We've been TTC for a year so I went to the doctor today armed with my BBT charts. According to both my charts and ovulation sticks (and to a lesser extent EWCM) I ovulate on day 20 of a 28 day cycle.

I told her this and she just didn't believe me! She said it was almost impossible, especially as I have regular cycles and wouldn't even refer for bloods as she said 1 in 10 take a year and wait a few more months.

I wasn't sure what to expect (aside from a miracle cure!) but this wasn't it. Is there anything I should be saying/doing or any tests to ask for? I may be in an underfunded area I guess.

TIA

Hi, sorry to hear you have an unsympathetic doctor. I have recently started charting and noticed that my Luetal phase is only 8 - 9 days. I went to the doctor who was honest enough to say he didn't know enough about hormones etc to say whether this was a problem but has referred me to a fertility specialist, as we have also been trying for over a year.

There are some things you can try to lengthen your leutal phase - (sorry if you already know this!) But Vitamin B6 can help lengthen your LP - 50 - 100mg (you can get these from Holland and Barrett in a B Vit complex which also has B12, which is supposed to be good to take alongside B6)

I would maybe try and see another doctor, esp as you have been trying for a year now.

Mine was only 9-10 days, I told the Dr who was completely uninterested and sure enough I conceived pretty quickly after having an operation to remove fibroids, so it wasn't a factor.

There is very mixed advice that GPs give re LPD and I have never actually heard of a GP who actually has acknowledged it!

There are a few things you can do yourself to try and improve your LPD. I am no doctor but I had a LP of 9-10 days and have been taking vit B6 as I did a lot of research online to see what could be done. My LP is now 12 days and I don't spot as much either which is good. I have been taking it for a few months now.

The other thing that people also rec is agnus castus. But I have not tried this myself.

The good thing about Vit B6 us that it is water soluble so anything that your body doesn't need it just expels it through urine. I have also read that it is better taken as part of a vit B complex vitamin as it absorbs better - but again not tried this myself.
