If I don't succeed in ttc this month I will be having one of these next month. I've found some old threads on how it works but can anyone tell me is it mad to think I can go into work straight after? Or should I take the day off? Any comments on experience gratefully received.

I have actually been involved in performing lots of these through work. Most women cope Ok and get a bit of uterine cramps when the catheter is inserted into the uterus and when the dye is injected. However, these cramps should soon settle.
The dye is clear but a bit sticky. Some will come out innediately and the rest in little bits throughout the day.
Many women go straight to work afterwards and take ibuprofen or something if having cramps. If it's in the morning I would give yourself a couple of hours afterwards to go get a coffee or something and see how you feel. Alhtough it's very routine for the people doing it you may also want some time to 'get over having it done' IYSWIM.
Often they can give you a verbal result at the time so be aware of that too.
Best of luck.

Hi

After my hycosy (which is slightly different) I was fine, however, most people I know who have had hsg have taken the rest of the day off - apparently you can get period-like cramps.

I was fine after mine physically - it was a lot less traumatic than I had expected - and I did go straight to work, but had also got the verbal result as giraffemummy mentions and it wasn't a great result, so my head wasn't really in a good place for work. I just skulked in my office so it wasn't a problem, but I guess it depends on what kind of work you do...

Really hope yours gives you good/useful news!

thanks. I think I may take a half day depending on when they schedule it although I'm trying heavy positive thinking to see if that can avoid it.

Hi, I have just had one and took 2 painkillers before hand and was surprised that I didn't need any afterwards and was able to return to work etc.

Could you book the half-day but go in if you are able to and reclaim the holiday?

Hi, I'm new to MN. I have a HSG booked next week and am pretty nervous about it. Not so much the physical but preparing myself for a good or bad result. I've got the day off so I don't have to think about going into work if I don't feel up to it. If all is well I'll treat myself and go shopping! ;0)

I had the HSG yesterday morning and at the time it just hurt (like period pain) when the dye went in (only a few mins), Dr also did 10ml of saline. It was fine, though I didn't get a good result. Afterwards I was really tender, sore and uncomfortable in my abdomen. Didn't sleep very well. My abdomen was gurgly, gassy and bloated, must be from all the fluid dispersing! Still feel a bit tender today but am back at work.

Hope yours goes better and is good news.
