Freeview competition/research I did a while back have sent my email address to everyone on their mailing list and I am Not Happy

They have emailed me (which is fine in itself as I said they could) but they have listed all the email addresses they have replied to at the top of the email.

Mine is my real name and I didn't really want it sent to a few hundred other people

oo er! I got this too.

whitenoise · 07/01/2009 21:29

was this originally for a MN comp? and we put our email addresses in to enter the comp? or am i remembering wrong?
There is no chance that i would have given the email address that i did if there was chance of spam (which is what this is - unsolicited mail)

Fillyjonk · 07/01/2009 21:32

you know what? I did NOT give them permission to contact me again. I NEVER EVER DO. I would have looked for the little box saying "No you fecking may NOT contact me ever again, I just want the vouchers.".

whitenoise · 07/01/2009 21:32

in case she doesn;t see this thread too, Justine posted on anotehr thread...

Hi all,
This is as you all rightly point out, is a complete balls up and deeply irritating for both you and us. We'll certainly be talking to this agency first thing tomorrow to make it clear how unacceptable this is.

Many many apologies to all from our end.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/01/2009 21:35

Fillyjonk that's exactly the same opt-out button I look for

This should definitely go in Campaign magazine as 'balls up of the week' though

Flamespar · 07/01/2009 21:38

I don't even remember doing the original survey, but was on there too.

andyrobo237 · 07/01/2009 21:39

I got the same email and thought it was Spam - and I did see the list of email recipients, and thought that is not right!!! It is ok sending an apology, but the damage has been done and is irreversable. Wont be partaking in that again!

OneLieIn · 07/01/2009 21:40

Mine too, but I am not too bothered. I mean who is going to go through all of the addresses and what would they use it for?

JuniperJo · 08/01/2009 16:49

Reading all these threads are making me feel sick. Do you really have so little to do that you can persecute a poor junior girl for making what is essentially an IT mistake that anyone could have made. People presuming she is 'half brained' or 'dozy' I find very cruel and unfair. She did not do anything worth the ripping apart you are all giving and I am quite sure you have all made mistakes in your perfect lives somewhere along the way! She is in ?floods of tears? Imagine if your daughters grew to be in their first jobs and people were jumping on them in anger like this. I got a lovely email for this girl apologising and I feel she is quite traumatised by all this - down to you nasty women trying to get thrills from your otherwise dull lives by attacking someone for very little. I mean really do you think your email addies are interesting to anyone ? the only people who have seen them are yourselves? You are deluded to think so. Give her a BREAK!!!!! You know nothing about her and are making such narrow minded assumptions. I once made a similar error and remember being so upset by how unforgiving people could be that it dented my confidence for years after. How do you feel knowing this is what you could be doing to this girl? I hope she has good mates/a supportive mum after the abuse she has had heaped on her by you bullies

SmallShips · 08/01/2009 18:11

I got this email too, only knew it was something to do with MN by some of the email address with MN names in them.

JuniperJo are you Jilly?

Fillyjonk · 08/01/2009 18:16

oh yawn. juniperjo's only post.

Look, esp if you are Jilly, you ballsed up big time here. And as a result, a lot of us are pissed off. especially me, whose name shouldn't be on that list as I did opt out (was on list due to seperate communication re winning)

So take the tongue lashing like a woman and fgs don't do this again.

Littlefish · 08/01/2009 18:17

Welcome to Mumsnet JuniperJo - I notice that this is your first post.

Littlefish · 08/01/2009 18:17

Cross post with Fillyjonk .

catinthehat1 · 08/01/2009 18:25

JuniperJo I think its time you finished your homework and started getting ready for bed.

Yurtgirl · 09/01/2009 21:42

I have only just discovered this and have sent a suitably cross email to rather silly jilly

Juniper jo - You say "She is in floods of tears"

How do you know? I shall presume that you are her or know her.

Either way it was a foolish mistake to make

I can identify a few mumsnetters from the list (luckily not people from rl, just MN but still!) its an invasion of privacy and unacceptable.
