Climate Change

Really concerned about Sunak’s change of tone

One thing I really appreciated about the UK was that climate action didn’t really seem to be much of a political football and that the Tories were pretty strong on this. It was a welcome change from all the nonsense about the US and how the environment is only something the left seem to care about there.

I’m so concerned about these new noises coming out of Sunak’s camp and that this might indicate climate action will become a partisan issue here in the UK too. The planet can’t afford this and I find myself wishing Boris were back!

@mosiacmaker I agree on all of that except wishing Boris back.

Personally I'm in two minds about oil licenses. In an ideal world we absolutely wouldn't need them but I totally understand the energy security concerns. We are on a journey to net zero, it isn't going to happen overnight. I would also prefer that if we are going to utilize fossil fuels at all then we do so in the most environmentally friendly way. Ensuring more sustainable practices is much harder away from home.

What does worry me is any rowing back on investment in sustainable technology and infrastructure etc.

I can swallow the bitter pill of increasing local fossil fuel extraction as long as it is more than matched by investment in ESG.

Well you're being proved right! Other than the z Boris bit of course...

Yeah I feel the same. It's very worrying. I saw a post on twitter today challenging the govt to produce the evidence that they're on track to Net Zero. Because at the moment all we have is their word for it. And apparently their earlier predictions were found to be wrong, and that's before we failed to attract any wind turbine companies to want to build here

OPEC are squeezing the oil market and artificially inflating the price because worldwide the use of oil has dropped. They're protecting their bottom line. Other countries including the UK wish to be less reliant

The use of wave energy is moving along now but it all takes time because of opposition, we have to be patient.
