I don’t think I’ve seen a thread where people get told not to have a pet because it contributes to climate change… but more often than not when someone asks ‘shall I have a child’ there’s an immediate ‘but think of the planet’ response.

Does anyone else find this ridiculous as a double standard? Pet food farming IS an issue and pets are not necessary (yes yes nor are kids but that’s not the debate here), we should be keeping less domestic animals. Why does a dog owner need 3+ dogs?

@BerriesOnTop you say:

Fact is, we don’t know how the modelled droughts will work in a higher CO2 environment

Sadly we do know, it's going to be a shit show.

My cats actually eat an insect based food as one has allergies. They’re both house cats so not catching birds. They’re not going to grow up and drive cars, fly long distance, buy their own houses and put the heating on. I don’t flea treatment them. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t think their carbon footprint is that much. They have two plastic litter trays I guess.

100 companies are responsible for 71% of emissions

And heat is a necessity. How do you think our ancestors lived? They used fires.

I think that pets, children etc are just red herrings, blaming others rather than tackling the real polluters

I've started feeding my moggies Lovebug food. It's made of crickets and packaged in paper. As sustainable as it gets for cat food.

Takes a while to wean them onto it but they love it now.
