alternatives to cling film

I'm trying to be greener and that has to mean no cling film - as far as I understand it, that stuff isn't recyclable and just sits around in landfill forever... so, can anyone share experiences of the beeswax (& other) alternatives around now? I use it mostly for wrapping kids' sandwiches and covering bowls of leftovers in fridge. Any recommendations?

Thanks lovely, wise, green mumsnetters.

I use flat sandwich boxes from sistema and these sandwich bags. These both keep the sarnies together. Couldn't trust children with beeswax wraps - they lasted a very short time Grin.

Leftovers go in various tupperware boxes. Plastic but not single use as I keep them for years. Five years would be a shirt lifespan for me. I don't use much glass for storage as I can be a bit clumsy and I had too many breakages when I tried to move to all glass about fifteen years ago.

I wrap sandwiches in kitchen roll in lunch boxes. Not sure how environmentally friendly it is but surely better than clingfilm?

My brother bought me these for my birthday - one my best presents! They're great for packed lunches and picnics

Scarlett, they look great. Would wrapping a single sandwich in one work? as in, no need for clingfilm

I am on a facenbook page called plasticsnotfantastic where normal folk try to encourage each other to reduce plastic etc. If you asked this question you would get a great response I think - loads of folk with knowledge.

I used sandwich wraps similar to Scarlett's for DCs packed lunches for ages. They worked really well (single 2 slices of bread sandwich). They're good as they also act as a plate.

I think for a sandwich just buy a metal tin that it fits in snuggly. Should last forever.

I have had this sandwich wrapper for about 18 months and still as good as the first wrap.

I'm still using a catering sized roll of cling film I bought 16 years ago, I don't use it very often, I use foil or snap lock plastic containers most of the time
