To me Macclesfield is like a half way house between the riches of Alderley Edge and Prestbury and the not so rich, but quite creative town of Stoke in Trent! There are lots of areas that have the big houses and nice schools, Fallibroome and All Hallows are rated very highly, there are lots of suburbs with either Victorian terraces and younger families or suburban 1960's semi-detached estates and then a couple of estates you want to avoid. The town itself is set on top of a hill and, in parts, still cobbled and you can see the surrounding countryside, quite beautiful but not many shops left. The creative scene is good for some a small town with lots of art collectives, street festivals, independent shops starting to come back and more cafes/bars moving in but it still feels a bit too quiet for a town centre at times. No Jaoanese restaurant yet! People are very friendly and down to earth. Direct trains to both London and Birmingham as well as Manchester obviously.

Forgot to add some great parks for the kids, West Park in particular and the Middlewood Way is fantastic for a walk with kids on bikes or scooters around Bollington and I've always felt very safe here.

I know it's almost a year later, but did you move there in the end, @ThatPlumPoster? Considering the same areas as you were - South Cheshire area, and keep finding properties in Macclesfield... wondering what it's been like to move there if you did?

There's a Japanese restaurant now! 😀
