Living in Llanfair Caereinion

We have the opportunity to leave the city and move to Llanfair Caereinion but having no knowledge of the area other than a few visits and driving through, I am apprehensive. Can anyone who may have knowledge of the area enlighten me as to the highs and lows. We have two children aged 10 and 13.

I wrote a long response and it disappeared.
Have you ever lived rurally or in Wales? I think it could depend on what you bring and expect. If you are used to a city - the public transport is limited, supermarkets about 10 miles, a very different experience of being a teenager (not necessarily positive), Welsh culture including the language may be familiar/unfamiliar, it's very pretty....edited version of what I wrote before.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. We have lived semi rural before and loved it. We love the idea of a slower pace of life. My husband is a Paramedic and I am a teacher but both work a lot from home. You are absolutely right, it is a very beautiful area of Wales and is really tempting us, but with it being such a big move, which would involve the children changing schools to Ysgol Bro Caereinion we want to make sure we do our homework first. I would need to commute occasionally to the Midlands so would need to make sure that trains are frequent to save me having to do the long drive and would need good broadband in the area. Do you have any knowledge of Llanfair Caereinion?

No but I know the wider area. If you are moving from the Midlands don't underestimate the culture shift. I would anticipate that it would be a very tight knit community and largely Welsh speaking. Hopefully someone who knows the specific village can advise

It’s a lovely small rural town with a friendly community. It’s very pretty, I don’t live in the town but one of the neighbouring villages. However, the nearest town that has a couple of small supermarkets is 20 mins away. There are no 24 hour supermarkets locally at all! You will absolutely both need to drive and have access to a car. Broadband isn’t particularly quick, there is no 5g coverage locally. The school is currently bilingual but the plan is to move to first language Welsh in the next couple of years. There are other bilingual schools/ English schools but that would involve travelling. There are trains from Welshpool to Birmingham, they used to be 2 hourly and not particularly reliable but that could have changed. If you do move my biggest piece of advice would be to embrace the Welsh culture and throw yourself into the local community and events! Hope that helps.
