Hello, just wondering if anyone can give me abit of advice..
I have been offered a house (HA) , I couldn't believe it, I accepted now I have an interview about my finances in two weeks. But in the time between being offered a house and this interview I have lost my job (due to not having the covid jab)
Now I am worried incase they tell me I can't have the property because I'm not working? Please if anyone has any info or has been in similar position. I only worked part time as I'm a single mum, but still.

Is there a reason why you are not vaccinated? Do you work in the care sector?

My own reasons plus the work place made me feel like i was forced to get it. And yes care assistance.

There's lots of jobs in the hospitality sector still, I got a job with a next day start doing housekeeping in school hours. I'd just apply for lots of stuff, I did recently and replies/ interview requests came back quickly and I chose what was most convenient location/ hours wise.

I assume if you're a single parent you'll get UC to help pay the rent as well?

Thanks for your reply, I am looking , applying but I'm just worried if I don't find anything before the interview, and of course I have to tell them that I have lost my job. Yes I receive UC but I don't know if that is enough for them to approve the application.

You need to apply for UC before your meeting with the HA.
They want to know you can pay your rent. Where that money comes from is less of a concern. With UC you will get the housing element so they know you can afford the rent.
It's not about you being unemployed its about the HA not putting you in a property you cannot afford which will put you in financial hardship and you could lose your home.

Good luck on the job front Flowers

HA's definitely do offer homes to unemployed people.

They will ensure you have applied for all you are entitled to, and will have sufficient income (from whatever source) to pay the rent.

Have you applied to your local hospital? Possibly as bank staff for now. NHS hospitals are desperately short of staff & not yet refusing employment due to vaccine status. I honestly can't see how the NHS will function if they do...

You should not be refused the property, however you need to get a Universal Credit/ Housing Benefit claim in pronto. Be honest with the HA as they may ask for a deposit.

Best of luck!

Some housing associations have their own financial rules eg. That somebody in the go household needs to be working, or you have to earn over a certain threshold because a percentage of rent needs to come from wages not benefits. Others have no financial restrictions but want to know that you will pay your rent reliably so are just checking that you have no CCJs or anything and an income from benefits, work or both. Others prioritise for different reasons. Could you look on the housing association website and at info for the property?
