Feet, hands, fingers knees

I have suddenly developed total stiffness in my feet and fingers and to a lesser extent my knees. It is particularly bad first thing in the morning but recurs if I am not active.

It’s more limiting than painful each morning in the sense that I cannot do anything till after my shower and I have to hobble, bent double with numb feet, to get to the shower. Then it’s fine till I stop moving around when the stiffness sets in again.

Has anyone else experienced this? It’s sort of ok as it stands but I’m worried it worsens. Any idea as to what it might be? I’m
otherwise healthy, eat well and, having been pretty car based for years, am now exercising more again.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling like this. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I experienced exactly what you describe when I was first diagnosed at age 38, so would encourage you to see your doctor soon. It could just be from picking up extra exercise, but always worth checking.
i hope you’re ok x

I have psoriatic arthritis and that sounds very familiar.

Tezza1 · 15/11/2025 21:42

Yes, sounds like it could be Rheumatoid Arthritis. At least get it checked out as the sooner you start on appropriate medication, the better the outcome. I wouldn't wish my horribly gnarly fimgers on anybody.

There’s lots of things it could be unfortunately including Fibromyalgia. Keep a diary and see the GP.

How old are you? This could be a menopause symptom and possibly be resolved by taking HRT.

Many thanks. I will have to follow all this up in the NY.
