Steroid injection in hip

Hi all,
I am having a steroid injection in my hip next week to hopefully help the severe pain from osteoarthritis.
I would love to know people’s experience of having one, I’m really worried it’s going to be very painful ☹️

I’ve had a couple in my back. Honestly it’s fine, not painful just a bit uncomfortable. Made a life changing difference to me. You’ll be absolutely fine! Keep your eye on the prize as it’s so worthy it! X

I had it in my hip. Don’t remember it being painful T all tbh m. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me but I know others who it’s been a game changer

Is it fluoroscopy? Under guided x ray with anesthetic injection first and dye? At the hospital?
I've had one today ( my 5th) got to rest for 48 hours after.
Once anesthetic wears off can be painful for a couple of days.
Or is it just an injection at the Gps? That's just like having an injection.. two seconds and it's over.

@Moier
Yes
fluoroscopy at hospital.
Can you remember how long it took to do?
Did you have to wear a gown or stay in your own clothes?

Unfortunately I was the same as @thaegumathteth in that it didn’t work for me but it was one of the necessary steps to have tried before I was referred to a surgeon for a total replacement.

@MooseBeTimeForSnow
I need both my hips replaced and have been waiting for just over a year now.
My BMI is too high so have got to loose 2.5 stone first.
Was the procedure done by your consultant?

No l didn't need a gown go in a dress.
Nurse will pull your knickers down and cover you with a gown... the x ray machine comes over and the surgeon will talk you through everything.. first the anesthetic goes in ( sharp and stingy ) wiggle your toes.
Then the dye ( feels cold) then the cortisone... it actually goes from the top not the side.. as its guided in there is two very very tiny and very quick sharp points he's ( or she) passing it through the joints.
I was in and out in 15 mins.
Please remember to rest for 48 hours after.. that gives it the best opportunity for the cortisone to get into the hip.
To stop swelling and risk of infection.
You need someone to drive you home.
Walk as little as possible.
No heavy lifting.
The anesthetic wears off in about 2 hours.. you will feel sore.. might go hot n cold and have face flushing.
I've woken up this morning just aching.
Too early to tell if it's worked . ( my first ones did ( both hips two weeks apart) second ones didn't.
I'm keeping everything crossed these will.
Good luck.. and honestly just think .. nothing to loose for a bit of pain.. but maybe everything to gain.
💐

P.S I'm waiting for new hips.
Had to loose weight.. lost nearly 4 stone on mounjaro ( another 2 go .. then I'm on the list).. 18 weeks waiting on average here.. once on list.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I’m still a bit anxious but it’s always nice to hear about other peoples experiences.
@Moier that’s an amazing weight loss, well done
I’ve been on Mounjaro for 6 weeks. It’s making me feel very sick all the time and I’m struggling to eat enough but not lost much weight yet
