Duloxetine

Hi fellow MN. My neurologist has suggested we try duloxetine as part of my treatment plan for recently diagnosed FND. I am incredibly sensitive to drugs and wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences with the drug and any hints and tips to make it easier. I've already asked for anti emetics to be added to the mix.

My friend takes this in the morning, she takes Nortriptyline at night, both for back pain. She's very happy with the combination.

Hi there, I took this drug for a year or two for depression, anxiety, insomnia and unbeknown to me as a pain med (I'm still a little annoyed that my GP didn't explain this to me at the time). I have had chronic back pain for over 10 years, and albeit Duloxetine was wacky in that it gave me brain zaps both going onto it and getting off it, it was quite an effective drug for me at the time. All these types of drug affect us differently, but give it a go - prepare for the zaps (not nice, but quite a lot of SSRI/SRNI's have these weird side effects); I'll be with you in spirit when I drift off to sleep on my Sertraline - that makes my whole body jerk as if I'm taking my last breath! Other than (and the constant yawning that all these meds give me), it's been quite effective for me dealing with long term dementia and consequently the death of my dad.

I was on it for about a year for fibro - personally I felt it messed with my moods and I became quite depressed. When I came off it I did it way too fast and went to a very scary dark place. One of my friends has just tried it but it gave her crazy nose bleeds and also low mood.
I haven’t heard much good if I’m honest xxx

Thought I would pop in and do an update. Finally started them last Tuesday so been on them a week, today is the first day I've not taken an anti sickness with it as wanted to road test and see how I went. It wasn't plain sailing as DD got sent home from nursery as she was sick so had her in tow while trying to navigate the meds.

Couldn't stay awake approx 90min after taking them the first few days, depth perception is gone and feeling as if I'm walking on a cruise ship.

A touch of insomnia and also intense fatigue over the weekend - we got some sad news on Saturday which meant an unscheduled trip into town on the Sunday which completely wiped me out.

The coat hanger feeling in my shoulders & neck is almost gone but still having issues with my leg and fine dexterity in my hands.

Hope it works for you 😀my personal situation - I’ve been on lots of meds and generally tolerate well but duloxetine was off the scale. Mood swings, hallucinations when I was falling asleep, crying and crying spells. And took me about 18months to come off it. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL ON IT

I was on it for 8 months. It worked for my chronic tension headaches, but gave me terrible nausea and upset stomach. Coming off them, even through a tapered withdrawal was truly horrific. I was so dizzy, nauseated and had terrible intrusive thoughts. It took two weeks before I started to feel myself again. I would never go on it again for that reason.
