Trying yet another preventative, just wondered if any one else has experience of atogepant and whether it worked for you?

Hi, I'm on day two of Atogepant. Ok so far although wondering when I might next need the loo........
How are you finding it?

Tarrarra · 17/11/2024 15:35

So far so good in terms of migraines. Only 1 in four weeks compared to 20ish in the previous month. I do feel very tired on it though and slightly nauseous in the mornings. How is it going for you now?

Which ones have you tried previously? I haven't heard of this one

That's quite an improvement! I'm at 3 weeks and I hadn't had an episodic migraine until yesterday and then it was 'different'. My chronic migraine/ headache is decidely present but I think it's possibly sleep related due to sluggish digestion. Constipation is very trying and, like you, I get the odd bout of nausea.

How's your appetite? Mine's very erratic.

I've tried a few preventatives over the years including amitriptyline, duloxetine, propanalol, candestartan etc. Atogepant is newly released this year; it's was prescribed by a neurologist and initially it's offered as a 3/4 month trial

I’ve tried topiramate, amitryptaline and propanolol with no relief.

atogepant is a game changer, I have had three migraines since starting but all less severe and shorter than my usual. I’d normally have had 18 migraine days in a month. I’m now six weeks in and although my appetite was erratic to start with, it’s ok now. I’m taking fibogel to help with the sluggish digestion!

The nausea has died down too!

Well no episodic migraines still but my bowels and therefore sleep are wrecked after 5 weeks. I've resorted to taking a half Atogepant tablet and copious amounts of prune juice and various trials of laxatives. I'm not sure this is going to work for me, but I'll try and keep going for a bit longer as the first few days were promising.

Any hints on regaining normal bowel
function?

Fibrogel daily and the green smoothies from Naked!

Great to hear the generally positive results of this new med. I've got a GP appointment tomorrow about going on a preventative and I'm really hoping they will agree to prescribe me this or something similar. I've tried beta blockers in the past, and had a private prescription once for topiramate, but I'm not sure having used either of these is enough to be offered this new one. Any advice gratefully received!
