Managing DH’s chronic pain

DH has had chronic pain condition for 30 years, since he was a teenager. He had a surgery 10 years ago when his pain was at extreme levels. The surgery helped a great deal but he is still in significant pain almost all of the time. He got so used to managing and pushing through it that it might not be obvious to outside world what kind of pain he is going through daily. He tried pretty much everything out there to improve his condition and nothing really makes any noticeable difference.

He works a regular hours office job and by the time he comes home he doesn’t have strength to do much at home. He does spend time with DCs but is not as involved as he could be as he’s spending a lot of his physical and mental energy just copying with pain. He’s been going to doctors recently to figure out if there’s another solution like surgery but that doesn’t seem likely.

I am wondering what alternatives we have as a family as this situation is far from ideal. One thing I’d want is to consider if so him to quit his job which means he could do more around the house (not expecting him to do all household stuff but anything would help as currently 99% is on me) and spend more quality time with DCs, then have more time to focus on exercise, physio etc - they don’t really help his pain but could improve his overall fitness which could be helpful with managing the condition. Financially it would be very hard for us to live off one income though so I wonder if he would qualify for any benefits due to his chronic condition - how does one go about getting it in place? Would love to hear similar stories and advice. We’re in UK, London

Has he tried chronic pain hypnotherapy? There seem to be some really good results from it. Or something like the Gupta Program?

Sorry I realise that doesn't answer your actual question, which I don't know much about (benefits etc). I personally had some really positive results from the Gupta program in relation to long standing chronic fatigue after trying heaps of other things unsuccessfully, so just wanted to mention in case he hasn't heard of it

Thanks @ChocolateJigsaw, unlikely to help his particular condition (he did try similar things in the past)
