Snapping hip syndrome

After years of on and off pain in my left hip flexor a physio has just diagnosed me with snapping hip syndrome. It's starting to get more and more painful and flares up after about 10 minutes walking and just gets worse and worse until I can rest and ice it. It definitely feels like the tendon is rubbing over the bone and getting inflamed with movement. I have exercises to do, anyone else had this and managed to get pain free? Missing walking long distances and running!

Hi, yes I have this so does my daughter. For me, just taking regular OTC analgesia helps. Walking too much can really trigger it.

Thanks. I'm taking ibuprofen and cocodamol but it's not really touching it. It's getting significantly worse (can barely walk for 10 minutes now without it flaring up and causing significant pain). Hopefully the physio exercises will help

I was diagnosed with this but then had an MRI and it turns out I have hip impingement and a frayed labrum. Apparently snapping hip should be relatively painless so if it's causing pain you might want to look into other causes.

What does hip impingement feel like for you? It does feel like something is kind of 'trapped'

Groin pain, instability, a feeling of something being "stuck", especially if I get up from sitting in a low seat or on a step, general clunking and popping noises.

Thanks. Was the pain there constantly? Or only when moving et walking?

the pain is sort of constant but variable, if that makes sense. I am very careful how I move, stand and walk to avoid any kind of aggravating movement but it can still come on for no reason at any time. It's hard to predict. It's definitely got worse as time has gone on.

Thanks. Mine only hurts after 10+ minutes of continuous walking / running, pretty much fine the rest of the time. Saw an osteopath who confirmed the diagnosis and did some work on my hip and thigh to loosen it all up, the whole area was in spasm. Its feeling alot better since then so will continue with physio and short walks
