Hi all,
Quick bit of background information.

I have muscle damage from cancer surgery 4.5 years ago.
This results in severe pain 24/7 in my back, hips and tops of my legs.
I am unable to take prescribed pain killers as my employer would have to be informed, this would most likely mean being unable to work anymore.

In 2 weeks time I’ve got to perform a task that I know will be very painful, has anyone got any suggestions as to the most effective painkillers I can get over the counter to help me through the day?

The impact the surgery has had on my life has been catastrophic.
I have lost my independence, mobility and many friends as I can no longer do the things I did before.

Loosing my job as well would make my life worthless 🙁

  1. As a cancer survivor, you are legally classed as disabled for life, even after remission. If this task is work-related, you can ask your employer to be excused it as a reasonable adjustment because the pain caused by your cancer treatment would be unbearable.
  2. Are you sure that prescription painkillers will stop you from working? If that's the case, can you ask for redeployment to a different role within the company, again as a reasonable adjustment because the pain is a consequence of your disability.

Take paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time.

Take paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time.

That combo doesn't even touch any of: period pains, migraines, sciatica, post-operative pain whilst laparoscopic incisions healed, IUS insertion.

OP, test out any OTC pain relief in advance in case it doesn't work. But I would honestly try to get out of the task if you can.
