Hyperparathyroidism symptoms and blood tests

Hello, I recently posted elsewhere, and wondered if anyone with similar symptoms, or any medics, could see if anything jumps out at them in terms of hyperparathyroidism?
serum inorganic phosphate 1.09mmol/L (8 Nov) 0.93 (23 Nov) 0.93 (1 Mar)
serum calcium 2.60 mmol/L (8 Nov) 2.64 (23 Nov) 2.57 (1 Mar)
adjusted calcium 2.62 mmol/L (8 Nov) 2.66 (23 Nov) 2.62 (1 Mar)
Vitamin D3 45.7mmol/L (23 Nov)
PHT 14.3 mmol/L (1 Mar)

New GP has referred me to orthopaedic physio and also to endocrinology.
I have had years of nearly constant pain, stiffness worsening (stiff neck, shoulders, splintering like pain in forearms and elbow even with gentle movement), exhaustion, sleeping after work, no energy, feeling icy cold especially feet) as well as arthritis, bladder problems, recent constipation and numbness/tingling on my right side as well as feather-like feelings on my face lips and mouth and eye pain with blurred vision (seen optician and eyesight has not deteriorated on eye tests).

Can you post the normal ranges op?

SecretBanta · 10/03/2024 14:06

Hi, yes, the normal ranges (mmol/L)are:
serum calcium 2.20 to 2.65
adjusted calcium 2.20 to 2.60
serum phosphate 0.8 to 1.5
Vitamin D3 above 50
Parathyroid Hormone (pmol/L)1.3 to 9.3

I haven't been able to find out if my parathyroid level of 14.3 pmol/L is considered quite high/high/way too high etc, but I have just received a letter for a telephone consultation with the hospital endocrinology team for 28 March-I was expecting to have to wait for 24 weeks!

Mine was 10.5 pmol/L when I was referred to endocrinology. This was in May last year, my first two appointments that were scheduled with them were cancelled due to strikes so I finally saw them in August, fast forward to now and after many tests and scans I’m now on the waiting list for surgery.
I’ve not had nearly as many symptoms as you though, the exhaustion and sleeping after work yes. Feeling cold. Pins and needles upon waking, aching knees and ankles when walking.
Mine are all symptoms that could be attributed to other things as well, general getting older and lack of fitness etc

SecretBanta · 10/03/2024 14:47

Thank you -the exhaustion is dreadful, I know. Did you find your calcium was particularly high? My GP says mine is slightly elevated, but it shouldn't be elevated at all.I hope they will do the tests and scans as well-did you have the DEXA, neck and s-mbibi plus kidney?

'exhaustion, sleeping after work, no energy, feeling icy cold especially feet), recent constipation'

Have you had your thyroid levels checked op? I had all these symptoms and my thyroid levels were too high. An endocrinologist will check this too I expect.

Fiddlersgreen · 10/03/2024 16:31

My adjusted calcium was 2.73 so yes. Also vitamin D was low although I can’t remember the figure and don’t have it written down, this was after taking Vit D supplements for 3 months with no difference. Those were the factors that made the GP refer me, he said high calcium, low vit D and raised PTH.

I had to do 24hr urine sample, DEXA scan, two different CT scans and kidney ultrasound. They’ve found one enlarged parathyroid gland, only cure is to remove it

My levels were similar to yours and I had hyperparathyroidism. Since had surgery and now better. Def push to get it sorted

SecretBanta · 10/03/2024 23:25

Fiddlersgreen-sorry to hear that, but good that you've been offered surgery-fingers crossed for you
Sleepingmole-thank you, glad you're sorted
I've read a lot of accounts on the Facebook group, I'm hoping that I won't be told to "watch and wait", as i know that the only treatment is surgery
