Mattress advice - severe back pain

Hi, can anyone recommend a good mattress please. I had the Emma mattress and this has absolutely destroyed my back I wish I never ever ever bought this. It resulted in severely back pain and sciatica that lasted nearly 18 months. It took me some time to realise it was the mattress. I went on the reviews to find so many people in the same position. I then purchased just a cheap mattress to get by it started to improve my back almost immediately. I went onto purchase the premier inn mattress for guest bedroom but I don’t rate this its very hard and uncomfortable. To be honest Im not sure that memory foam is too good for sciatica sufferers. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks

Go to a big shop with lots of mattresses and talk to a salesperson. They will find the right mattress for you

and we use a wool mattress topper too, for softness on top of a supportive mattress

cant stand memory foam type mattresses, old fashioned proper ones are what you need.

and back Pilates sessions, look on You tube

I have similar issues and a gel mattress topper has been a game changer. Not memory foam. I went from a memory foam mattress to a too firm sprung one, and gel has been brilliant.

There are lots of brands such as bamboo, but mine is just from Dunelm. Does the job but I may upgrade at some point.

We have a Simba and personally I think it's out of this world. They're firmer than Emma's because they have springs and foam and I've seen lots of recommendations for Simba for back pain.

If you're on a budget there's also a fantastic Simba outlet shop on Ebay where they're heavily reduced (mattresses returned within the guarantee period but thoroughly checked and recovered).

I had the exact opposite with my Emma mattress. It’s superb for sciatica.

Following for advice OP, I hope you don’t mind!

Definitely NOT Ikea Hövåg, I stand up from my bed and my back crunches like a bloody glowstick. One of my colleagues has had spinal surgery and recommended a Simba mattress, but not sure which.

I have a deluxe hybrid Octosmart

Really good for my knackered back

You really need to go and lie on as many beds as possible. When you find one that feels comfy, lie on it for at least 20 minutes, preferably longer, in the position you normally sleep in.
