Knee fat pad impingement

Anyone had this injury and have any recovery tips?

I have been icing, resting, taping, and building strength in the gym. So far, v little improvement in 6 weeks. Really struggling with the lack of normal exercise and movement.

Many thanks

I had to have an arthroscopy so they could trim it. I’d suffered on for nearly 13 months waiting for a surgery date, it never improved whilst I was waiting.

I damaged and impinged my hoffas fat pad years ago. The pain was absolutely horrific and in the end in desperation I got physio and acupuncture and it allowed the inflammation to go down enough for the impingement to ease. It still flares up from time to time even years after but its never as bad as the first time. I was told only gentle exercise , rest and ice when it flares

@romdowa thank you for sharing your experience. Interested by the acupuncture, how many sessions did it take and assume this was acupuncture through your physio?

It was through a private physio that I found. I think maybe 4/ 5 sessions. She taped the kneee as well in-between sessions to stop the knee moving so much as well. But I've hypermobility and obviously the sway back wasn't helping the impingement

This is what I the physio thinks I currently have. Had X-ray of knee which is clear. It’s been going on around 6 weeks now. My quad was really tight and now clamshell exercises as we think my glutes were weak it seems to have got slightly better but sharp pain medically on knee now I can straighten it more. Doesn’t feel like it will ever get better!

@dreamingofstars hi, sorry to hear you're suffering from this too. I have seen some progress over this last week... what footwear do you use day to day? Shoes with a heal seem to take the pressure off and I think have started to help my recovery... small healed boots for work, and trainers with a wedge insert at other times. I am also looking into orthotics as physio thinks the issue stems from my feet and an internal rotation at my knees when i walk/run.

Are you icing and taping your knees at all? Again, no obvious improvement day to day, but over the last month, I think it has cumulatively started to help.
