Disc bulges

Have had several weeks of terrible nerve leg pain and eventually had an mri which showed 3 disc protrusions/ bulges . My nhs appointment to discuss a plan forward isn’t for 6 weeks despite being urgent, have a private appointment in 2 weeks for similar consultant. Just wondering what my options will be? The pain is only easing slightly at times now as I’m on a lot of medication ( Amitriptyline, naproxen, codeine) . I have small children so absolutely want to avoid surgery if possible-still waiting to hear from
my physio. But for those who have been through similar what’s the treatment options generall? I’ve had little improvement in the leg symptoms since it a happened a few weeks ago and everyday I think surely it’ll be better with time but it’s not, Ruining lots of lovely plans I had for this month. I will see the consultant privately but any treatment will
need to be nhs (unless somewhat affordable) as not covered by my insurance. Any advise appreciated/ should I be exercising, resting or stretching right now etc to try and improve things?

just an update for those in similar situations- I had my consultation appt with spinal surgeon who reviewed the mri and suggested either give it time and rest ( not possible!) for 6 mths and see if it improves on current medication , alternatively get a cortisone injection in as pain relief. Just started another thread howling for peoples experience with that. Some in this thread have said it’s been useful, some not at all so hard to know what to do as it’s £700-800 privately so need to consider if worth the chance. I don’t know how long t the wait is for it on the nhs and can’t get anyone to tell me.

Please try the curable app I mentioned. I spent many many thousands of pounds having every injection under the sun, it only provided very temporary relief. You've got nothing to lose by trying it 🙏

This is the type of educational content they have. Understanding pain was the first step in proper recovery for me

Had mine for about 10-12 years now, a bulging and degenerative disc. I've tried almost everything except surgery, physio, osteopathy, epidurals, acupuncture, cupping, medication, even something called spinal decompression which is basically a computerised rack which strectches your spine. Nothing has worked in the long term. Yes, some days are better than others but you have my deepest sympathy.

Oh fab!

For me understanding there was no anatomical basis for what I was feeling was really really tough to come to terms with. That my pain was so acute yet all pain is generated in the mind. Once I could accept that, it all became easier.
