Hi all

I am new to this part of Mumsnet but have been on Mumsnet generally for many years.

My teenage child has Chronic Pain and Chronic Fatigue. It started as ankle pain and has progressed.

For the last year we have listened to the doctor who has said it's linked to depression etc, which my child does have.

However, my child is now almost totally bedridden and using a wheelchair to get around on the rare occasions they do leave the house.

Anyway, have just bought a book called Beating Chronic Fatigue by Dr Kristina Downing-Orr. I am working my way through it, I am a slow reader.

I am getting excited that this may have some answers but before I run away with myself, I wonder if anyone else has read the book or been prescribed Nimodipine on the NHS, please.

Many thanks.

That is really useful @Buttercup72. DD is really struggling with CFS. I will ask her to look into this.

@rampantivy I hope it helps, it’s a horrible illness. I don’t know if it mentions it on the links I posted, but food intolerances can happen if you have SIBO for a while. Gluten is the most common, and unfortunately I can no longer eat it. Had no idea it was setting me off at the time but cut gluten out and within 2 weeks felt a massive difference. Might be worth experimenting with for a fortnight just in case - it’s pretty easy to work around.

@Buttercup72 that is very helpful. DS dud cut out gluten fir 3 weeks and no change but will explore. I am trying to get him to see an osteopath who dies the Perrin technique but it's difficult as DS has several issues.

But all lines of enquiry are helpful

I listened to Pain info www.curablehealth.com/podcast/back-pain-study?fbclid=IwAR1mMpxtGWwey8qEzig4ZncyVtgyF9Flnd9T16w_TnQhQJ_iZN5MijW5lyg

Good luck - DS is very lucky you are looking into so many options. Keeping an open mind helped me find out about SIBO, and without that I dread to think how I would be now. There will be a mixed bag of causes, but all you can do is investigate - even if one solution doesn’t help it’s ticking something off the list and narrowing down the search. From others POTS and hyper mobility seem to be other common causes, but I didn’t get to investigating them myself.

One thing that has been suggested is Kefir which helps with good gut etc.

Thank you for your kindness Buttercup72.
