Chronic pain

CHRONIC PAIN - CBD oil

Akire · 18/03/2021 19:28

Had anyone tried this for chronic pain? Google goes between the nhs site saying
“this is illegal you could be arrested” to others saying it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

It’s also not cheap £20-50 for a bottle so not something I want waste money on if no good
Or going get me into trouble.

I've thought about it. CBD oil isn't illegal, I dunno what that nhs site is on about.
I've just no idea how you choose a good one and as you say, it's jolly expensive.

This was on NHS site

What about products available to buy?

Some cannabis-based products are available to buy over the internet without a prescription.

It's likely most of these products – even those called "CBD oils" – will be illegal to possess or supply. There's a good chance they will contain THC, and may not be safe to use.

Health stores sell certain types of "pure CBD". However, there's no guarantee these products will be of good quality.

They tend to only contain very small amounts of CBD, so it's not clear what effect they would have.

Is medical cannabis safe?

The risks of using cannabis products containing THC (the chemical that gets you high) are not currently clear. That's why clinical trials are needed before they can be used.

"Pure" products that only contain CBD, such as Epidyolex, do not carry these unknown risks linked with THC.

But in reality, most products will contain a certain amount of THC.

The main risks of THC cannabis products are:

psychosis – there is evidence that regular cannabis use increases your risk of developing a psychotic illness such as schizophrenia
dependency on the medicine – although scientists believe this risk is probably small when its use is controlled and monitored by a specialist doctor
Generally, the more THC the product contains, the greater these risks are.

Cannabis bought illegally off the street, where the quality, ingredients and strength are not known, is the most dangerous form to use.

As you can see they are very much on the don’t do it front!

The CBD oil you buy in a shop, or from an MLM hun, doesn't have anything illegal in it.

Whether it actually does anything, as a result, is the question...

I use products from CBD Brothers. I like the paste but there are many products. I find it helps the pain of my hip arthritis. The do samples so you can try different products before committing to spend lots. I also find the balm very good. CBD balm from Fiddlers Elbow Grease is also really good, again they do samples. If you are concerned about ingesting small amounts of THC, try the balm. The THC content in products from these such sites are low. The cannabis strains that are grown are low THC (the bit that gets you high) and high CBD (the pain relief part) . Buy from a reputable place like those suggested above though. There are private fb groups you can join to get advice on what is recommended for your specific condition as there are different types for different needs. Sativa for energising and happiness and indica for relaxing and pain relief. Best is to try some samples and see if works for you.

Thanks for that. Haven’t seen any site offering samples yet. Will have look at what you suggest.

I've tried it, the legal stuff you can buy, for migraines and anxiety. Sadly it did nothing at all for me.

The nhs site I just googled said this
"Some products that might claim to be medical cannabis, such as "CBD oil" or hemp oil, are available to buy legally as food supplements from health stores. But there's no guarantee these are of good quality or provide any health benefits."

You must be looking on a different site. It is not illegal

@Akire I e just realised that the bit I quoted is at the top of the page you quote. They say buying off internet likely to be illegal. Where I live there is a shop selling it I'm told ( I never go out so I wouldn't know). We have tried to get the spray for DD but the consultant wouldn't agree without seeing her in clinic and as she's bed bound we can't do that ( travelling in ambulance worsens her ME)

Name changed as I tend to bang on about this to all who will listen!

Cbd oil has been an absolute godsend for me and wouldn't be without it.

I sleep better, it has straightened out my wildly up and down moods and sorted out my chronic pain. If I forget to take my regular dose I start to feel the pain creeping back the next day.

I would highly recommend doing some research. Simply cbd had a private fb group, with a wealth of information and you can search topics in the group for specific things. Their website is the same name. All certified stuff. Beware of buying basic oil from Holland and Barrett etc.

I use Green oil and sometimes the balms. Honestly wouldn't be without it but appreciate it's not for everyone.

Thanks for reply I’m used to google providing information and seems private groups are the way to go to find out basic stuff. But that makes it feel like it more dodgy!

Will have a look can’t be any worse than al the alcohol in using fo cope with pain.

I think the reason for the private group, rather than being dodgy is that it's easier to manage/admin the comments.

They actively stop anyone trying to PM giving dodgy advice / trying to sell products.

They are really good at giving advice, signposting other services and keeping everything factual.

There's so much misinformation out there I.e it's illegal - (no it isn't) that I can imagine a public group would attract a ridiculous amount of unhelpful traffic.

Good luck, I hope you find it useful :)

I tried some from cbd brothers for my nerve pain from ms, but it didn’t do anything. I think it needs the thc. Used to smoke cannabis pre kids and it really helped with the pain.

I second the recommendation for SimplyCBD. I use the Green oil which is £7.50 for a bottle and then £4.50 for postage. A lifesaver which helps control my autoimmune flare ups. Join the Facebook page and have a read.

I'm curious about the balm for arthritic joints. I think I might give it a go. It makes me nervous though. Thanks for suggesting it @Cumberlover76
Maybe I'll be brave and give it a go. Nothing to lose...

@Rae36 it's worth trying a sample of the balm either from FEG or CBD Brothers, the FEG one is cheaper so maybe go for that. They have some lovely fragrances. Also do one with arnica. if anyone is interested they do pet balms too.
