Bought dd a pink nintendo dsi in usa in November. Turns out it is not compatible, won't go on internet and can't play all games. Husband being total cock about it, as if I did it on purpose. All pompous and "didn't you research it before?" no mate, just like you piggin well didn't when YOU KNEW FULL WELL TOO WHAT WE WERE FRIGGIN GETTING HER AND WHERE FROM.
I wonder if I can get a divorce on Xmas day> dd is crying and whining, can't blame her, but dh (dickhead) is kind of egging her on. Thing I might just go to bed.
Have reserved one online on argos for collection tomorrow and will contact nintendo to find out why the hell no one told me in USA!

It is not ruined. Theres loads more to Christmas than a gift not working, esp when she can have it tomorrow. By getting upset like this you are both teaching her that it is a huge deal when she should be learning that yes its disappointing but you can still have great fun even when theres a disappointment.

Enjoy the rest of your day

I'm not upset, I am being reasonable and nice & have explained. Dh on the other hand is being a nasty cock, but whats new.
I am irritated that yet again it's all MY fault because I didn't investigate first, because it's always my fault and because I am the one who buys all the presents. He did not one single thing, usually he buys at least a couple of things but nothing this year, left it all to me, which is fine, but then you have no right to criticise!
I hate men, I want wife next time.

But thank you for your kind words, I will say it to her in a moment, you are right, she is 11 ffs!

weird question but i know you can download codes and hacks when you want to change DVD player to play UK dvds, maybe you can do the same with DSi? HTH

peacocks · 25/12/2009 12:49

get thee to thy local market they may be able to chip it nudge nudge wink wink

Merry Christmas

DD's DS was bought in the USA and it does all the same things that the other DCs' do.

ninedragons · 25/12/2009 12:56

Peacocks speaks the truth.

Ask around about an all-regions chip.

Though you might also need a transformer (might be called a step-down transformer) to charge it, as US runs on different voltage to the rest of the world.

Your husband sounds like a wanker.

ninedragons · 25/12/2009 12:57

Unless it runs on batteries (DD is two, so I am not at the Nintendo stage of life yet).

whifflegarden · 25/12/2009 13:04

All is not lost! You don't need to buy a new DSi. You probably don't need a transformer as most mobile electronics are dual voltage (lap tops/phones etc.) You will likely need a plug thingy (so that charger will fit your socket) or can buy uk charger? Check.

You probably will find it more difficult to buy games but can do so on ebay, amazon and such like.

Can you tell that I've spent a lot of time back and forth across the Atlantic?

Hope that helped.

"Is the Nintendo DSi internationally compatible?
Because the Nintendo DSi utilizes region encoding, international compatibility is limited.

DSi Ware games and other downloadable content
The Nintendo DSi Shop is specific to the region for which the Nintendo DSi system was manufactured. For example, a Japanese system can download DSi Ware games and other software only from the Nintendo DSi Shop for the Japanese region, regardless of where the system is being played.
"

So say Nintendo.com so it's not looking good
Ah well, I am a good complainer, I am sure I'll get my money back from Nintendo USA, if not, I will sell on USA ebay!

You can try buying things from the US Nintendo store. If you register, you get points to buy games, so you don't need to spend money. There are free games, too.

The wifi receiver doesn't seem to be all that strong, so sit close to the transmitter when setting it up. It's definitely non-intuitive, so follow the guide. You'll be able to use the wifi here; it's the same protocol as in the US.

QOD · 25/12/2009 16:32

it won't go on the internet at all though jj, and she does want to use it for that She is 11 and we can net nanny it to suit.
Oh well, getting a UK one tomorrow (ker ching to Nintendo) and will sort out what I can do to return it asap

That's odd? Both my DS's ds's (lol!) are US ones, and all UK games I've bought work in them. They are the metallic topped ones that were only ever released in US. They still fit/ use the normal DS chargers as well, cos they charge using their sister's charger sometimes (she has a UK ds). Must admit though, didn't know about the internet thingy, my DS's are 6 & 7, and my 11 yo dd has never assked about that. Does that mean the R4 card my mate has filled for DS1 (7yo) isn't going to work in his ds? Hope not cos he'll be opening that tomorrow when he gets back from his dad's! All normal off-the-shelf uk games have worked though??

BexieID · 26/12/2009 00:04

It just sounds like it's the DSi thats not multi-regional. My DS Lite plays games from USA.

QOD · 26/12/2009 08:21

yep, just the dsi. Apparently lots of peeps bought the dsi when it first came out in Japan and were as disaapointed.......
