...so shall I still use it?

Did my food shop last night and in my haste and desperation to get out of Tesco's as quickly as possible, I've picked up a couple of items that go out of date on the 24th. It is savoury eggs and mini chicken fajitas. We are having sil, bil and kids on boxing day for buffet. Not sure if I should chance it or not?

Also, when looking at my receipt I see I have been charged for 3 of something when I only bought 2. This really annoys me as there is no way I am traipsing back to the shop in the ice, with toddler to wait in huge queue, however I don't want them to have my £3!!!
WWYD?

I'd still use them, they'll be fine.
As for being over charges, I'd ring the store and ask them, they may refund your card(if you used one)

How well do you get on with your inlaws?

In general I am a great believer in life's little risks and under different circumstances would probably serve the lot to my DP and DCs and let them take their chances.

However, i think in this case I wouldn't. Out of date savoury eggs I would definitely not serve up to guests. I might take the risk on the fahitas if they need heating up, as long as they can be really heated up, but I wouldn't advise anyone else to do it.

I think you've got two of the dodgiest things there for eating past their dates tbh.

If it was bread or something then obv it's fine but chicken and eggs? No way!

Freeze them now and then get them out on the 26th in the morning.

I agree with ilove, just freeze them.

Yeah keep them in the fridge and heat the mini fajitas very well and they'll be fine. I used pancetta last night that was 11 days past 'used by' and it was absolutely fine!

Excellent idea ilove - they have both been put in freezer and the best bit is that they can both be cooked from frozen! Would normally serve savoury eggs cold, but they will just need to eat them hot this time.

at flier - I was thinking about doing it but don't really want to poison my il's!!

Rang Tesco and after being passed from pillar to post, on hold, etc, she said just bring in receipt next time I am in the shop.
