We can't have a buffet as per normal it feels totally wrong to me as my DP's dad and nanna are driving 2 hours to see us. A buffet just doesn't seem very thoughtful. Maybe I am mad, but def no buffet.

Not cooking a whole dinner again so what can I make that is Christmasy but not full on roast?

I'm 25 and don't cook nice meals often but I can follow recipes no problem. I intend to be very hungover boxing day so the less fuss the better but still impressive(ish) looking and like I have made an effort.

All I know is pudding is panetonne pudding (sort of) FILs fav. I had thought of this but am not not sure? Is neck fillet £££££££££?

Thanks!

Make a pie- can use leftovers if you want. I usually do a chicken and mushroom one on boxing day.

Use ready-rolled pastry and Bob's your DP's dad and nanna

Gammon, mash and lots of veg and fizzy wine sounds not too complicated.

We are having buffet food ,my step children come over boxing day so we have a buffet lunch and then Dh or i take them to Argos to spend their x-mas money.

So we will be eating:
mini pizza
mini pies
sandwiches
spring rolls
cheese
wedges

I will be doing buffet for my lot - but I will make some soup to go with it (leek and potato with ginger wine - vegetarian society recipe) and smallish baked potatoes.

if you are shopping today lots of places seem to have salmon at reduced prices.

Sassyfrassy · 23/12/2009 09:31

big salmon, stick in oven and cook. Baby potaoes, veg and hollandaise sauce to go with it.

Mistletoesnowman · 23/12/2009 09:44

We're having turkey curry.

MadameCastafiore · 23/12/2009 09:47

We have a roast ham with mash and salad and pickles and the meat left over from Christmas day so we aren't left with stupid amounts of turkey hanging around for ages and if we have loads of roasties and parsnips and sproyts from Xmas day we also have bubble and sqeuak.

MIL also does a huge poached salmon - it is the perfect boxing day meal in my book - quite plain with hollandaise and new pots and beans, not a heavy meal but still a bit special!

mrstimlovejoy · 23/12/2009 20:03

i'm making a chicken lasagne and spaghetti bolognese as got my mum and brother coming over for lunch

TheFallenMadonna · 23/12/2009 20:05

My sister and niece, dad and his partner are travelling to see us on Boxing Day, and if they didn't get leftovers with mashed potatoes, salad and pickles, they would be most put out .

Goober · 23/12/2009 20:08

I will be having another rostie of the chicken variety.

MrsMattie · 23/12/2009 21:34

We usually have leftover turkey and ham, bubble & squeak, salady bits, pickles, bread.

Toffeepopple · 24/12/2009 09:41

DH always makes a turkey pie using leftover turkey, ham (and gravy rather than stock).
