We went a few weeks ago the kids enjoyed it and I thought it was very good for free !

kslatts · 22/12/2009 20:24

We thought it was great, especially as it was free, we ended up spending a fortune on photo's though.

LynetteScavo · 22/12/2009 20:30

Well...it was OK. We went last year, but didn't bother again this year.

The old man himslef wasn't too bad, but the waiting area could have been more imaginative.

MilaMae · 22/12/2009 21:06

We all loved it,the kids adored the whole Harrods experience which added to the whole thing. Honestly they just floated around totally spellbound, the Wizard of Oz theme helped.

They adored pet kingdom, toy kingdom, the v expensive milkshake they had on tall stools in the sweet dep,the Christmas dep and the big gold door they had to bang on to see Santa.

My 3 are Devon kids though and are v easy to please.

I thought the photo options were way better than Selfridges and the whole atmosphere is heaps better than Hamleys and Selfridges.

Couldn't fault it for free although we did spend a small fortune on jelly beans

hmm we went and i wasn't very impressed. FC was good himself, pretty authentic. BUT, the Wizard of Oz thing was pretty irrelevant to christmas i thought, and having a toddler i wanted a grotto with more christmas tree/snow/greenery etc theme. My ds didn't know what all the WoO stuff was about at all!

IlanaK · 22/12/2009 21:28

We go every year and love it. This year's Santa was excellent. Took so much time to talk to my children. Not sure what the Wizard of Oz thing was for though - shame really as it was nothin to do with Christmas.

Earlybird · 22/12/2009 21:29

Isn't it true that you have to make an appointment now?

If so, it has got to be heaps better than when dd was small. Back then, we all waited literally hours to see Santa......it was an endurance contest that overshadowed the experience itself.

IlanaK · 22/12/2009 21:37

Yes, you have to book tickets. I much prefer the old queuing up system as they used to really put on great entertainment. They had panto one year! And a trolley was wheeled round with biscuits and water bottles. We always went first thing on a Monday morning and never had to wait that long. Now you don't wait much, but all the extra entertainment is gone.

MrsMattie · 22/12/2009 21:38

Went a few years ago and never again. I think being a Londoner, it's especially underwhelming. It's just Harrods with a fat bloke in costume, really.

Theior online booking system is shit, too.

kiwibella · 22/12/2009 21:56

loved it

I will definitely try to book again next year .

sunnyshine · 23/12/2009 06:58

i see a mix! i too was a little underwhelmed but its all about children i suppose and dd loved it. she saw tin man, lion and glinda too so was very excited! did you see the gorgeus puppies in pet world??? Dont think will go next year but maybe year after!

The puppies are lovely in pet world. Normally I will not go into pet stores as I think they are cruel. But the sign there said they are taken out to socialise and have attention throughout the day. Not suprising the unbelievable price tag!

I agree that it is not just the grotto at Harrods. It is the whole experience of the shop. The kids love looking in the toy department and riding the special lifts.

We live local to Harrods and still love it!

mumto2andnomore · 23/12/2009 10:52

We have been 2 years running and love looking round the store but never been to the pet bit, will have to go again next year !

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 23/12/2009 11:44

We really enjoyed ourselves and my girls loved the Wizard of Oz theme. We were lucky enough to meet some girls outside dressed up as the 2 witches (just for fun, nothing to do with Harrods) and they posed for photos with the children.

Santa was fab, especially when he was actively promoting the importance of reading to my children- my kinda guy!

Our only negative was that it was so busy in the store that the children kept getting crushed so we didn't get a good look around, but it was a Saturday just before Christmas so to be expected.
