Disney's 'A Christmas Carol' - has anyone taken a little one to see this and them NOT be scared?

As part of our Christmas Eve tradition, we go the cinema to watch a Christmassy movie.

My older children (9, almost 10yo and 6 yo) are desperate to watch Disney's 'A Christmas Carol' however, I have just read the movies review on here and it seems to be a little scary (aren't all Disney's in parts?) for little ones.

Little dd3 is only 2.5 so we don't want to scare her. She's been to the cinema before, but I suspect she won't really remember it, so this is basically her first time.

So, have any of you took a little one to see this film? Did they enjoy it, or is it very scary for them?

Has anyone taken a little one to watch this film and they haven't been scared?

The alternative would be 'Nativity' which looks great fun for me and dh, but I don't know that the children would enjoy it as much?

Thoughts?

I've been with DD ( 5 months) she LOVED it , DSs ages 6 and 8 and they were a little sacred tbh. plus DD who is 9 and was okay with it.

I felt it was a little 'dark' in places and a bit spooky and alarming but though overall I enjoyed it I'd say it was rather dull and a tad depressing!

I told DP this and he took his 10 and 11 year old DC and came back reporting that I was absolutely right in my opinion.

Very xmassy movie despite all the glumness.

We watched it on Sunday with DSs (aged 5 and 9). Like Hobbgoblin, I found it rather dark and depressing despite the upward turn of events by the end of the movie.

We saw the 3D version and the effects were fabulous. However, my 5 yo ended up cuddling up on my knee and kept whispering about being scared of having bad dreams.

To give you some perspective, my DCs love the Star Wars and Harry Potter movies and have never been scared by those. My 9 yo was fine and enjoyed it but it definitely wasn't good for 5 yo.

Overall, I think I would have been disappointed if that had been our main Christmas movie (we often go to cinema on christmas eve too).

Have you seen Nativity? That is definitely worth watching. Very funny and the whole family were laughing to the point of tears throughout

Doh! Just re-read your OP Of course, you haven't seen Nativity!

Go see it - it is hilarious

Eek dark dull and depressing isn't exactly how I imagined our Christmas Eve treat ...maybe I need to re-think ...

Thanks

Thanks Tulpe - so did your little one find Nativity funny too? It struck me as the kind of film dh and I would laugh at, but that the children wouldn't necessarily ...

I was planning on taking the boys (11 and 4) to see this today when DS1 gets home from school, but we have postponed due to bad weather. I think we are going on Christmas Eve when DH is able to take us but maybe we will see Nativity instead.

Today we are going to cuddle up on the sofa with hot choc toasted mashmallows and popcorn and watch a few Christmas films. Every year I plan to do this but always run out of time. Well this year the housework can wait.

DS is 10 and well 'ard, and even he was terrified in parts. i was a bit perturbed too and thankfully DD (4) slept through most of it

Plonker - yes, my little one found it hilarious....I had to remind him to breathe at times!!

It is a real family movie - the kids love the stupidity of some of the characters (as did DH.....says a lot ) and there are lots of laughs for the adults too.

Jacaqueen - my sentiments exactly wrt to the housework Cuddle up with the DCs instead and have a lovely time with them. You can always whip round with the hoover and polish when they have gone to bed
