Have got all the stuff required, has anyone actually done this, and was it worth it?

Done it.

Delicious!

Plus, you can tell people it's Nigella's turkey, thus absolving yourself from any blame if it goes wrong.(which it won't)

Oh good, thank you.

I was talkih to DP about my Christmas cookery plans, to be honest I don't think he was at all listening interested, so good to get some feedback.

Says to brine for up to 2 days, so will put in in the bucket tomorrow.

Is it sad that I am excited?

Oh it's truly brilliant and transforms Turkey. I recommend the spiced gravy to go with. Enjoy!

hobbgoblin · 22/12/2009 00:21

I plan to put mine in bucket tomorrow. However, as yet I do not have the necessary ingredients. I am a bit slack, so to speak.

skymoo · 22/12/2009 00:21

hehe - does the turkey taste really salty though> must look at the method

hobbgoblin · 22/12/2009 00:22

No, not at all. Dunno why not, but it doesn't.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/12/2009 00:24

Yes, i was idly wondering if the turkey would be salty, as there is a whole box of maldon salt going in.

Yes, will probably do allspice gravy and gingerbread stuffing to go with as well.

I love all this Christmas prep stuff.

Got all ingredients expect star anise, which 2 sainsburys, an Asda and a tesco in Gloucester have run out of.

Me and another woman huffed and puffed about it in Sainsbos today, she said 'I blame Nigella'. Bet she's an MNer.

I had the exact same monologue conversation with my dp last night. I think he may have been asleep for at least 3/4 of it. There was I sat with my Nigella book and fresh sheets of A4, a nice pen, glass of mulled wine all ready to PLAN together.

I wrote and underlined 'Christmas Eve' and gave up so tried to tempt him with photos of brussel sprouts con pancetta to no avail

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/12/2009 00:33

I was asking DP what vegetables he considered a good idea (secretly would have been fuming if he had disagreed with my vegetable choices, but never mind). He just looked at me as if I asked him how the large hadron collider worked, bless him.

I think when I start sentences with 'this year I think we will have the usual red cabbage but not have cauliflower because...' he just tunes out. Mind you I am the same when he starts banging on about what motorbike helmet is the best.

So how many of us woke up excited this morning because it was time to bath the turkey?

Mine is currently in my ILs freezing cold garage can't wait to eat it.
I cured my pork loin nigella style too.
Tomorrow I'm doing the gut buster pie.
Yum.

theminniebauble · 23/12/2009 16:01

I did it a couple of weeks ago for an early christmas dinner with PILs and it was damn fine. A little salty but that suits my taste.

I always make a big fuss about consulting DH re veg choices etc and he always tunes me out then acts shocked when I put together the shopping list to end all shopping lists. He never learns.

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 24/12/2009 20:19

OK I'm in - with a slight variation. Since we're having goose and I can't stretch to a turkey as well, I'm bathing a turkey leg in a half solution of the brine - so half water/salt/sugar but full quantities of the aromatics.
Shall report back - am rather nervous actually, but hell, it's only one leg. How bad can it be?

Twinkleandpearls · 24/12/2009 20:22

I am brining a turkey crown as I type. The gigerbread stuffing is fab
