i.e they have 1 child and you have 4, do you spend 4 times what you would have done on one?

I do yes, I have 4 and my ssiters have one and two;its not hard to spend more than one sister (DS1's birthday was £1 from poundland.... she is not broke, just bought a six bedroom house PMSL- everybody needs a character Aunt don't they? Mine brought me much hilarity when I was a child) but I do take into account what they must spend on us as a bulk when buying (and the fact that I don't have that many nephews (no nieces) and its just nice to get them gifts)

Having 6 DC I've always felt slightly guilty about this. It was OK for the first 3 because everyone else had 2 or 3 DC so things evened out. In our family we all stop buying for DC, (except our own) after 18th birthday. Now it's just our younger 3 and 2 other nephews who receive family gifts.
Most aunts, uncles & godparents have continued buying gifts for our youngest 3. DH's sister stopped buying as soon as her own DC reached 18 and so our youngest never had gifts from that aunt. It's not that she couldn't afford it. It was simply because we as a family would be having more than our 'share'.
