Will my Christmas tree die as soon as I bring it inside?

Last year's tree was planted in its pot into the garden. It has been snowing for the last couple of days so everything in the garden is rather chilly. Our flat is also quite chilly but has the added advantage of sporadic central heating.

So, if I were to dig up the tree and bring it in from the freezing cold is it going o drop down dead at the shock of being in relative warmth?

The plan was to give it time to acclimatise but that hasn't happened and our 5-year-old will probably divorce us if we are tree-less.

Help!

Bumping for you

But have no idea as to the answer!

I dont think it will have any effect bringing it into a warm place. Digging it up could kill it though. Can you get the pot out of the ground or lift the whole root ball plus soil straight out of the pot?

Digging away at the soil around the roots or and pulling them up in freezing weather will damage them.

We've managed to get the tree and pot out of the ground without any trouble. It's now sitting in the shed until we come up with an answer!

Christmas in the shed? Novel anyway.

No, we're not planning to have Christmas in the shed! The tree's coming inside tomorrow to be decorated.
