How to present a bike without having wrap it?

Tbh it's not really christmas, but my dd's birthday at the weekend and we've bought her a bike. Don't have enough wrapping paper to wrap the bike, but I'd like to make it look like we made some effort. She's 8, so it's quite big.

Dh says someone on here will know .

Small beautifully gift wrapped box containing a nicely written card that says to go look outside/in garage or wherever. Huge big ribbon on bike.

wrap the bike helmet up

ah. i have a similar problem. have bought DH a bike for christmas - it's not built but in a big box. it's too heavy for me to lift up without the plastic straps around it which are around the box so i don't think i can wrap it up.

do you think the string idea would do for him?

Ivykaty44 · 19/12/2009 10:30

string is the way to go - its great

Go to Staples and buy a roll of plastic wrap for parcels - it's like big clingfilm really - it's blue. You wrap the bike and then you can pad it into different shapes, overwrap it and disguise it as something else.

Either that or pop it in an (unloved) duvet cover and stick a bow on it.

Hide the bike and wrap up a bell and a lamp for the handle barr's

When I was given my bike for my 13th birthday Mum casually asked me to open the dining room curtains after I had finished opening my pressies - and lo - there was my new bike on the patio. I had no idea there was a bike in the offing and it was such a lovely surprise.

An ex bought me a new bike for Christmas once. He chained it to a lampost a few doors down. We went for a walk, he stopped, looked at the bike, and said "that's a nice bike, is that the kind of bike you were thinking of getting?". I said it did look like a very nice bike. He handed over the key to the lock and said "Happy Christmas".

When ds had a bike we turned it upside down ie resting on its saddle and handlebars, put it unside a double duvet cover and put a big bow on it.

Halfords do a shaped wrapping paper thingy for bikes - different sizes and everything..

A fiver - so not too horrendous - but I do like the string option!

dizzycringles · 22/12/2009 19:16

we got our local florist to do a massive bow for DD1's but I might do a combination now

sorry if it's been said already (I haven't read all the posts - trying to rock baby to sleep and typing with one hand ) but how about you set up a quest for her?

Hide the bike somewhere like the garage/garden shed or even at the neighbours. Then put the smallest little box/envelope/bag/whatever you have under the tree. In it, put a note saying something like, 'welcome to your quest, your 1st clue is hidden in...' or maybe just draw a picture of where she needs to go/what she needs to do. Follow the star, he-he Set up a trail of clues that will finally lead her to her present. Then you may not need to wrap it at all - just put a sheet over it for her to 'unveil'. Maybe sprinkle some glitter over it or something.

I'm sure your whole family will have a great laugh watching/helping her through her quest

You might want to make her do something silly for a clue.. i dunno.. write her name on the window with her nose or something [fhmmm]

If she gets a bit upset at first about the fact she only got a tiny box for xmas, all the more excitement when she finally gets to the bike!

Tinsel!

That's what I've always done when giving a bike - just wrapped tinsel over the handlebars and cross bar - looks fab.

We bought our ds a bike two years ago and hid it in bathroom then dh asked him to run up and get a toilet roll so he did yelled excitedly ran back downstairs (with toilet roll i might add lol) and threw it at dh before flying back upstairs yelling for us to follow and see what he'd found in bathroom, very sweet and he still talks about it now.
