Help! My Christmas tree has started to smell. It's decomposing isn't it?

Help.

I bought it on saturday from the forestry commission. It's in a pot, but doesn't have any water. I didn't think it would need it.

Now my living room smells like it's got a huge decomposing tree in the corner which we've lovingly decorated.

I don't remember this smell being part of my christmas childhood memories.

It’s definitely the water. I too found this zombie thread but after reading others that offered a solution. Grab a turkey blaster and bowls and suck out as much as you can. Then add fresh water back with a teaspoon of bleach. That smell is awful but this works. Just did it tonight!

Thanks, not just me! Saw an article about bleach, pennies, coke etc, wasn't sure that the bleach was going to kill it, still need it not to keel over for another weeks worth of Christmas.
