SuperQuick MN Xmas Question: What time do you eat your xmas dinner?

i am cooking at MILs. always cook when i am there. really happy to do it.

they always eat at lunch. last year i asked what time best to SIL for her kids (its only MIL, SIL her DH and their two kids, our dd was only 9mo then) and she said 12. That's what we did. We were cleared up by 1 it felt a bit strange.

Dh made some noises about maybe a 5pm tea this year So tea basically for kids. But just spoke to MIL and she said lunch is better for the kids - assuming i might agree. not sure why it's better for the kids. We now have a 21mo and a 6mo. The other GC are now 4 and 2.

Really, I am not so bothered. I really MIL and get on ok with SIL. If that;s what everyone wants so be it. I cook just cause noone their end likes to cook, wheras i do. I don't assume that therefore i have any say in when it is.

BUT i do find it strange to eat big meal at lunch and that lunch to be so early.

Or does everyone have xmas meal at lunchtime?

We have lunch but it gets later each year - with other commitments taking up the morning and as the dcs are all getting a bit older, they are more flexible now.

So we aim for about 2ish and I'll give my 4yr old, who is the youngest, some snacks thoughout the morning (and she'll sneak a few chocolates too, no doubt).

We've never eaten later than 3ish though.

jeep · 16/12/2009 20:57

about two as we get up early and mil likes us all up and about by 9

i couldn't eat at 12! way too early.

CremeDeMenthe · 16/12/2009 21:32

I aim for about 2pm, because I want it done and dusted so I can relax. Any later and I get too drunk, burn myself on the turkey tinor get over-ambitious with the flaming pudding.
BIL is cooking this year, think he's aiming for 3 or 4pm.

feedthegoat · 16/12/2009 21:39

Depends where we are as I studiously avoid taking responsibility for it. At in laws it is about 1pm. At my mums about 3.30pm. I'm happy to eat all day long and therefore don't care!

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 16/12/2009 21:41

We usually aim for 2.30 ish

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 16/12/2009 21:42

feedthe watching the game ??

Rindercella · 16/12/2009 21:43

1.30 - 2pm ish. Any earlier would just be odd, and I am far too disorganised to actually get anything on the table prior to that anyway!

IdrisTheRedNosedDragon · 16/12/2009 21:44

About 2. I think.

AvadventCalendar · 16/12/2009 21:46

1-2pm no later. Usually over and done with the Xmas totp though

feedthegoat · 16/12/2009 21:47

Lily - no, but we've got sky sports news on. Sounds like it's possibly for the best! Are you and are we as bad as all that?

bellavita · 16/12/2009 21:50

1.00 ish to sit down for starters, but then I don't rush with the main straight afterwards..

feedthegoat · 16/12/2009 22:13

I'm with your dp on that one to be honest lily!

Milliways · 16/12/2009 22:19

We eat about 2ish (or 1:30 - 2) as we open presents after lunch so any later would be cruel

We are out at church in the morning, and kids have had stockings and a Santa present, then church, then GPs arrive, chat, eat, presents.

BexieID · 16/12/2009 22:25

My parents have their xmas dinner at about 2pm, so everything can all be washed up and put away for them to watch the TV!

PIL have it at around 6:30. I'm due DC2 xmas day and we're eating at SIL next door to us. We're (hopefully) cooking the turkey and doing roast potatoes and PIL, SIL, BIL can do the veg, mash & starters.

What we usually do is have pancakes/omelette for brunch xmas day, then goto PIL to open presents. This year we'll just come back here a bit earlier to bung the turkey in the oven.

plumpud · 17/12/2009 13:06

about 2 pm here.. although it all went to pot last year and ended up at about 4-5..which was a tad late tbh.

so we'll be aiming for 2 ish here again this year .

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 17/12/2009 13:08

Then as they won't then be hungry but will ahve wanted starter, we wille at main @ 4pm, tis our solution to having kids between 10 and 20 months
