Oh marvellous - DD2 has eaten all her chocolate ...

... both girls have a hanging pocket advent calendar. Both filled with matching chocolates. All has been going swimmingly.

Till this afternoon, when DD2 sat very, very quietly in the dining room and scoffed every remaining piece of chocolate in hers.

So now I can look forward to 12 days of deepest anguish every morning, when DD1 smugly consumes chocolate and DD2 is reminded why she hasn't got any any more. Waaahh!

thats another reason why we dont do chocolate calendars. ever.

chegirlwithbellson · 12/12/2009 23:08

This is why I dont do choc calendars anymore. There is no way on this earth that DS2 would get through advent without disgracing himself.

PeedOffWithNits · 12/12/2009 23:13

we have the felt one - pockets under a tree with felt shapes to velcro on the tree each day - if DS sticks an extra one up one day it can be returned and put up again the next day - no problems!

chegirlwithbellson · 12/12/2009 23:19

My son is a bit on the extreme side. We have a kitchen cabinet with a lock on it where we have to store the sugar, hot choc, any odd sweets, icing, cereal bars etc.

I think a chocolate filled advent calendar would cause him to explode

Disclaimer - he does have SN. We dont just lock up our food willy nilly!

frazzled74 · 12/12/2009 23:24

had this same problem on day 3. dd has her calender hidden and loves her secret chocolate in the bathroom each morning.ds has forgotten all about calender and seems relieved to have eaten it all in one go.

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 12/12/2009 23:28

A christmas fairy comes to our house every night and puts one piece of chocolate into the next day's pocket for DS3.
His older brothers are very disciplined... so far

TrinityReindeer · 12/12/2009 23:30

we do the calendar firtst thing every morning and then they go back onto the topmost shelf in the kitchen that only dd1 could reach and that with a chair lol

BlueBumedFly · 13/12/2009 16:08

Santa's helpers come to us every night, in fact after every sleep at the moment which seems to include the ever vanishing lunchtime nap (sorely needed by both smallBBF and Mummy)- and kindly pops a chocolate in the door.... getting though mini chocolate penguins quite quickly, hope M&S still have some in stock!

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 17:15

Good lord. Sorry but even at two my children knew that advent calendars = one choc a day. Am really shocked at a nine year old (no SN?) eating it all. I would be very cross indeed.

TheFoosa · 13/12/2009 17:37

me and my sisters used to do this on day 1, removing the insert, scoffing, carefully replacing insert and then opening a door a day as normal

We don't have SN

We also did it with easter eggs, eating half and then carefully replacing the other half so it looked like a proper egg

it shows ingenuity and cunning

SantasFullAndHeavingSack · 13/12/2009 18:21

my lot have always eaten their choc calenders early. sometimes all on the first day. But as i say, when they are gone they are gone. Not my problem and certainly wouldnt waste time being cross over it.

SantasFullAndHeavingSack · 13/12/2009 18:22

And one of mine is 9 with no SN too but what on earth has that got to do with it?

Fruitysunshine · 13/12/2009 18:24

I have to ask.......but why is it such a big deal? It is the only time of the year people generally allow themselves and their kids to indulge and those chocolates are hardly full bar size..

JaneiteMightBite · 13/12/2009 18:51

Except the whole point of advent is about waiting and anticipation, non?

SantasFullAndHeavingSack · 13/12/2009 18:54

they are still anticipating and waiting for christmas though, whether they eat the chocs now or later.

Smithagain · 13/12/2009 22:44

Yep - DD2 is going to learn all about waiting and anticipating this year. And watching her sister eat chocolate while she waits ... and anticipates ... .

And I'm not a big fan of chocolate calenders anyway - but their Grandma gave them one each so it's kind of hard to resist!!!
