gift ideas for older uncle please

My uncle is in his late 70s, lives alone since his wife died last year. He helps out with my Dad, who has Alzheimer's - dad is still in early stages, so lives at home, is independent, but my Uncle has him round for dinner once or twice a week (and always gives him a really good feed, dinner and pud, homemade traditional stuff as he used to cook in the army). So we like to get him a gift for Christmas to say thank you, as he is a pensioner himself, doesn't have lots of money, but won't accept any money off us towards the food he feeds Dad (fair enough, it's his brother after all and he wants to help, but I know he has to be careful with money).

Last year we got M&S vouchers, with some chocs, but this year my brother has decided he wants to get some vouchers off just him, which means me and my sis don't want to also get vouchers as it would prob look a bit daft, plus uncle is a proud man and would thinkn it would be too much money.

Anybody got any ideas for gifts??? TIA.

My Dad is in his 80's and is difficult to buy for as there is nothing he 'needs' that isn't boring like socks, pyjamas etc and there is nothing he 'wants' either. However, I've found nicely framed family pictures go down well, was thinking of getting him a personalised calender or photobook from photobox or something along those lines. Having said that, he always appreciates...pjs, socks, new jumpers, pork pies, chocloates, gentlemen's relish..or.What about taking him out for a day or for a meal somewhere nice? HTH

Cook stuff is really delicious.

....I meant send the actual food, not the vouchers

How about making up your own hamper for him?

Include some of his favourite tipple (whiskey, wine) and a few treats (chocolate, fancy/unusual cheese, biscuits, cake)

Or,

Cashmere socks, scarf or jumper

Theatre tickets

Membership to somewhere locally that would interest him
