Tell me your plans!

What are you cooking / buying / serving?

What drinks?

What food or snacks?

What else?

We have inherited my parents tradition of a Christmas Eve drinks party, although with our friends not their's! Plus them of course. But this does mean circa 30 adults and about 30 kids of varying ages! We live in a 4 bed detached, but even so, am always a bit nervous about how we squeeze them all in. Ways of doing it realtively stress free are:

chill out
serve only mince pies (bought)
Christmas cake (made)
sausage rolls (bought)
copious crisps and nuts
red, white, mulled wine
beer
hire glasses from offy you buy wine from
have napkins only
2 jugs for juice for kids
do it from 3-5pm
chill out

We have done it twice so far, and it really is great fun, everyone is really in the mood, and I have been told that it is our party that makes people feel Christmas has officially started which I thought was a lovely thing to say!

Oh I forgot to mention another essential ingredient is an amazing MIL who works tirelessly throughout.

We were in PJs, kids in bed, floors washed/hoovered and practically straight, sitting in front of Christmas telly, rather squiffy by 8pm last year.

Can't wait!

They both sound good!

I've invited about 20 people (plus gawd knows how many kids) around for a Christmas drink.

I was thinking mulled wine and mince pies, but now wondering if I should put on more substantial snacks that that. Can't decide.

Looking forward to it though!

Also wondered about baking some Christmas cookies and letting the children decorate them.

about 40 people coming for a christmas drinks at my parents! They do it most years so we are quite used to it and at least now my sister and I are adults we can help which takes the pressure off. We do champagne only for everyone-nothing worse than making one g and t fetching ice slicing lime etc only to be asked for another one 3 minutes later. Most people drink champagne and always good deals on it this time of year. Everyone is local so everyone will be drinking. Doing simple food that can be cooked before. Little sausages, cheese straws, sausage rolls, homemade homous with veg, and the normal crisps and nuts etc and we put a finish time on the invitation so people know when they are expected to leave so we can get on with our dinner and celebrations.
