Card to Germany

I just can't face dragging the children into the post office queues. Does anyone know how much a standard card costs to send to Germany? I have plenty of 1sr and 2nd class stamps to make combinations

If I'm too late for it to arrive before Christmas, please don't tell me... ignorance is bliss in these situations!

Many thanks

Just posted one this morning. Think today is the last day. I paid 57p for a normal sized/weight card. HTH.

Thank you so much!

56p, according to this.

When my mum sends letters and cards they generally take 3 (working) days to arrive. Still plenty of time!

what a useful website. I will save it in my favourites - thanks!

I was done

BlauerWeihnachtsengel · 11/12/2009 10:58

No, seriously, hotcrossbunny, I'd be scooting round to the PO in your position, demanding that penny back.

I think the thing about 'today is the last day', is that it's the last day where they will absolutely guarantee it will arrive before the Big Day. But we've had cards arrive in the past on the 23rd that have been posted on the 18th or 19th, so there's no problem with the 11th.

do you have to write airmail on the envelope and your address on the back? Is it the same price for USA?

Squishabelle · 11/12/2009 11:58

Yes write airmail on (or get a sticker from the Post Office). Germany is not the same price as usa. Get them weighed and priced at the Post Office.

Squishabelle · 11/12/2009 12:00

A Post Office wouldnt charge 57p because they dont do a 57p stamp! Other shops are within their rights to charge more than face value for stamps if they wish.

lilolilmanchester · 11/12/2009 13:36

just a word of warning..... apparently now that the stamps just have 1st or 2nd class on them, not the actual value, apparently they won't always accept multiple stamps for cards. Or so the lady in our PO told me, tho sounds a bit daft.

Squishabelle · 11/12/2009 21:40

They will accept any number of stamps as long as it adds up to the correct postage.

blauerweihnachtengel
are you a namechanger? If not, and you fancy a chat about all things German, do head over to the German chat thread on overseas.

If you are a namechanger, who the hell are you normally and why have you abandoned us?

lilolilmanchester · 11/12/2009 22:11

squishable, our post office said sometimes they wouldn't be expected - as the stamps no longer have actual amount on them. I KNOW it shouldn't matter, but that is what she told me

lilolilmanchester · 11/12/2009 22:11

expected??? I meant accepted.

Squishabelle · 11/12/2009 23:47

You are right -it dosent matter. Silly Post Office lady -shes wrong and should know better!

BexieID · 12/12/2009 23:28

I sent a card to USA today and it was 90p.

Squishabelle · 13/12/2009 00:34

Bexie - hope it wasnt a christmas card! Last day was last week!

BexieID · 13/12/2009 22:56

It was and was only late posting as still waiting for Toms nursery photos to come through. I'm sure my friends won't mind it being last as am pregnant with my 2nd child which is due xmas day!

BexieID · 13/12/2009 22:57

last = late

nancy75 · 13/12/2009 22:58

ignore the last day thing, i send cards to australia and every year i miss the last day by at least a week, they always get there on time
