Are you making your own wreath this year?
I am determined to give it a go for the first time ever this year, but don't have a clue how to go about it, so looking for some bright ideas!
How are you making your Christmas wreaths?

Thank you for reminding me . . . yes, hopefully - we saw some nice ones on the craft table at a Christmas fair, but there wasn't time for dd to make one, so I promised we'd do it at home.

They made a hoop from willow soaked & twisted, then soft bits of holly wired twisted around & wired onto the hoop. Then ivy added to that, and various decorations - they had cinnamon sticks and slices of orange dried in the over. It looked pretty simple - they were being made by smallish children, maybe 7 y/os up without help, basically so long as they were big enough to twist the wire.

My mum used to do more or less the same thing years ago but not being a hippy she used an old coathanger bent to a circle for the base, then tinsel twisted around and baubles wired on.

Oh god I tried this in a fit of Martha Stewartry last year. It sat in all its incompetent mess in the utility room until 12th Night, when I hurled it into the bin.

Woman at the farmers' market had a stall selling them for thirty blardy quid last week though. And not particularly fancy ones either. If you find the secret do tell; I could make a fortune!

I wire together offcuts from the christmas tree in a circle then attach ribbons and baubles etc - free!

You don't need wires, oases or willow - first find as much greenery as you can.

I usually start with lengths of ivy (variegated is good),, formed into a circle and twisted round and round on itself until it's reasonably firm.

Don't make it too big as it will sag when you hang it.
And you can secure it with garden string or wire to keep the shape.

Then snip of some bits of Christmas tree or conifer, shove these in round the edges (again, use string or bits of wire to secure), you can also go around the inside if you like.

Add in bits of holly, any other greenery you fancy, maybe fake berries from Hobbycraft.

Then glitz it up as you wish - I like a big bow at the top and a fake bird, but have also done one with a blue bow and three blue/silver baubles hanging at different lengths.
from the top.

Cinnamon sticks and dried oranges an option, obviously, as are pine cones, fake apples and pears - whatever.
